Got two jugs a year ago in November on WM special in my store $17 a jug. Probably the only way I'd buy this stuff since Castrol rebate are worth the effort 90% of the time.

That's not the same stuff as the dealership Castrol EDGE Professional. I ran the 5W-20 version of this in my RAM 1500, drained it after 2000 miles. The engine seemed noisier. It's thin as heck. That VW of yours is a beautiful car with a cool turbo engine. Treat it well and follow VW spec ;)

Here is the MSDS from April 28, 2020 for this motor oil: https://msdspds.castrol.com/ussds/a...4308F86323F80258559005286C2/$File/2606630.pdf

Look at page 5 for PDS data.

It's a true Group III synthetic.

If you really must have 0W-20 then I recommend Mobil 1 EP 0W-20 - at least it's 70% PAO.

There's also been some talk that this oil contains esters...why it can go 20k.

I was looking into the Mobil AFE and EP too. The AFE actually has similar specs to the ESP X2. They each have much lower PAO than the M1 EP. But i'm not running out to 10K so any high end 0W-20 makes me comfortable and worried about the "LL".

Funny, edge has always been very quiet for me. And as far as it being group 3, I have to ask nicely, so what? Plenty of high performing group 3 out there. Pao doesn’t implicitly mean it’s “better.” Mind you I believe it’s nice to have a good slug of pao, but wouldn’t shy away from an oil just because it didn’t. Base oil is just part of the equation, as proven over and over.

I understand, however, you have a Turbocharger that you want to protect. PAO stands up to heat than any other base oil, except maybe for ester base, however, that's a different ball game and doesn't really apply that much to motor oil as it does to jet oil.

I got a HEMI 5.7 in my 2016 RAM 1500 that was built in 2015, and those things can be noisy, and five years ago they didn't always have the best built quality, so I'm careful what I put in that motor. These HEMIs have roller lifters and a single overhead cam. They're nothing like your typical DOHC engine that you see in Hondas or Toyotas.

As far as being a Group III, I was just letting the OP know. I don't have a problem with that at all, sorry you misunderstood. PAO stands up to heat better than Group III, that's one of the things it does better.

It's been discussed here before, the thought that Edge EP probably has some esters. Either way, I have no issue with GrpIII. If a 2.0T Honda, 1.5T Ford are OK with ILSAC 0W-20...why not VW at 5k picking up son at daycare? Lol

Truth be told it's always geeky and a fun distraction to debate what's in this or that motor oil and how well it will perform and protect your motor. The reality of it is that we don't really know what's in these motor oils except for the certifications and approvals they carry. I'm sure it will do fine for you. Castrol makes good motor oil, that's for sure. The biggest change I've seen going to 0W-40 was in my 2018 Hyundai Santa FE Sport. That motor sounds like it belongs in a farm tractor, but a bit thicker oil makes it smoother. I used to call it "the coffee grinder". It's my fourth Hyundai 2.4 GDI since 2010 so I know these motors a little bit. You have a more recently designed engine so I'm sure that the Castrol EDGE EP 0W-20 should serve you well. I wonder if they don't bottle the same stuff for the dealers in their "EDGE Professional" line. I know it's a stretch, but just entertain the thought for a second.

I have run both M1 0W20 EP and AFE in my Subaru and I find EP to be a superior oil as far as performance and it is much quieter than AFE. I emailed Mobil recently asking for the cold cranking viscosity of M1 0W20 EP just to compare notes with AFE's ultra low rating.

I almost had a heart attack when first reading my OM and it read '0W20' in a car that previously recommended oils with an HTHS of 3.5 (pre-2018). But i'm over it now too. Time will tell. Still running the factory spec oil though and nothing is off the table.

Dude...

You need to truly EXERCISE those ponys...

Stop puttering around like a AARP citizen...

Just messing with ya.

All 177 of them in this full sized sedan. :ROFLMAO:

My oil temps have never exceeded 203f. And that's even traveling 80 mph on Alligator Alley (Broward to Naples and back).

On an average day, the temp ranges from 196 to 200 (during this very hot S.Florida summer).

It's this crazy quest for fuel efficiency. Consider my old school or crazy, however, I wouldn't run a 0W-20 in a Turbo. I'm trying to go along with it but if it was my car I wouldn't do it. These 3 or 4 (if you count Mobil's AFE 0W-30) ILSAC viscosities are so close together that if you ran a 5w30 your engine wouldn't know the difference but it would be better protected. I don't know about Castrol EDGE EP 0W-20, but Mobil 1 EP 0W-20 has like ZDDP in the 600s. Most 5w30 oils are like 850 or so. A turbo actually benefits from ZDDP, to be precises, the bearing inside of it.

I ran it in my 3.6L until I tried Kendall, but then the RTG clearance hit and for the next 130K miles, I will be running it. The Castrol was fine and WM had it on rollback when I bought it. It will serve you well.

Probably why a HM oil would be a good fit. (High Zinc).

I didn't find that much RGT on clearance but if i find something else now that we're nearing the end of the year deals, i'll do the same.

115QTs of 0W-20 and 70QTs of 5w30--it was too good to pass up with the discounts and some store managers wanting to clear the 0W-20 (scored a lot of it at $1.00 per QT). I will be mixing 60/40 0W-20 to 5w30 (3QTs and 2QTs) in my 3.6L
