Does the ECON button REALLY work in the 2017-2020 CR-V?

Now, it seems after searching the web as well. I am not the only one who thinks this.

I am going to just insist the wife leave it off. I want to see in some bass ackward way if fuel dilution changes

I've been driving the 2017 CR-V a LOT more the last 8 months (since dog) - this whole week I have it (wife gone).

I know what the ECON button is supposed to do. I feel it, cut power, change shift points, etc.

I don't see the MPGs change at all. If anything it's just over 34 with ECON OFF, and around 33 with ECON ON.

With it OFF it probably is just more user controllable, hence no difference.

Thoughts? Input??

Not worth the bother.
Plus gimping the compressor when it's 100 out is counterproductive.

That is the one big problem with using ECO in my Civic, on days above 80F the AC really isn’t that effective 🫤
I am surprised, this is not the case with the ECO mode selector (different then the ECO light that Toyota has) on the Avalon or ES350, yes the AC is not as cold for the first couple of minutes but it always ends up freezing me in about 10 minutes, even in California desert.

Even though my Civic has dark tinted windows I find the AC just doesn’t work that well in ECO mode, it is nowhere near the level of my Corvette (although GM has always had much better AC than Honda as it is) My Corvette doesn’t even have dark tinted windows and the AC will still freeze me out after ten minutes

Got a 13' CRV with that stupid " ECON" button. I do feel less power and weird shifting, but only 1 mpg difference. Not worth it. Feels like the engine is struggling to do it's thing. No power when trying to pass on get onto an on ramp....All for what ???? 1 mpg ???? Haven't touched it since. It was used 1X....and the last time. You gotta be a real tightwad to run around with that button " ON"

I am a real tightwad 😆
I drive my Civic 25,000 miles a year and gas is expensive here so I probably save at least $200-300 a year if not more by getting 2-3 more MPG. And I drive my Civic slowly anyway so I really don’t have a problem with leaving it in eco mode all the time

At least you were getting 2 or 3. I was getting 1....Then none with the A/C on. I attribute that to AWD though. Takes it's toll on gas mileage. Extra driveshaft and differential. You know what I mean. How the heck do you drive a Civic in all that snow in Canada ???? That car is like 1/8" off the ground ???

It’s got more than enough ground clearance for the snow we get here. We really don’t get massive snow storms here where a foot of snow might be on the roads. Where I drive gets plowed frequently and I tend to stay home during the worst weather as well.

Great shape ! :) The concoction of salt they use in New York will destroy the underside of any vehicle in a few years. Not you're run of the mill rock salt. They changed the chemical composition of the liquid salt they use in conjunction with rock salt.,,so it doesn't re-freeze. HIGHLY corrosive stuff. Eating vehicles for breakfast. It bit them in the butt though, it also ate the galvanized highway drain pipes for the catch basins. Now their replacing them all, slowly, with plastic drain pipes. HaHaHaHa LOL :) Don't know what mixture they use in Canada.

The stuff that they use on the roads here is very corrosive, even the brine they started using is supposed to be terrible for the cars. I have a monthly membership at the local car wash so I make sure I wash my Civic almost daily in the winter months

$150.9/L  and that doesn't include an eclair from CT. :coffee:

I'd be driving with the ECO button on too. (y)

Patman, that brine is the WORST. They've been using that stuff here in NY for over 15 yrs. Destroyed the underside of my 13' CRV. Took me months to fix the damage. I use a car wash with an " undercarriage cleaning process" Nothing more than a piece of PVC tubing with holes in it, better than nothing. I actually seen it in use in the car ahead of me, so it's not really B.S.,,,,but the pressure could be better. Sprays like an old style lawn sprinkler :(.....Some car washes advertise it, and don't even have that !!!!! That brine is like salt paint sticking to the underside of the car. It's put down as a " Pre-Treatment" AND inside the plow truck tanks as they plow and salt. My cars have never had so much corrosion since they started using brine. DOT doesn't care about YOU'RE rust. It's you're problem, not their's. Gotta check my cars every spring and touch up spots here and there. My 03' Solara was built in Canada, and sold in US as new to my parents. Ended up in my hands. I've never seen such FANTASTIC factory rustproofing in my life. It was supposed to be sold in Canada, not U.S.A. Maybe their was a shortage of Solara's at the time. Whatever. Not a spot of rust on that car. Must have added hundreds of pounds to the weight of the car. I'm not complaining :) Sux living in a salt belt :(

If you ever get the tint re-done look at getting Ceramic tint. I think 20% is the darkest on that at least at my local shop. I know searching way back the 50% ceramic blocked more IR than 5% dyed version. I have 30% on most of my cars.

They do make a 70% that is almost clear but blocks a lot of heat load. I know many that had their front windshield done with that.

I used the ECON button on the Pilot yesterday for 7 hours / 400 miles. According to the dash my average MPG went up by .4mpg. I didn't reset it from trip down on Friday so it 500 miles of information to calculate. I will say that the 7 hours yesterday was at a lot more consistent basically 2 lane each way with about 60mph max and 45 through towns. The throttle response even lightly from almost stop as lights turned green driving up to them was poor. Pilot felt almost confused on what to do but I stayed with it.

For the last 100 miles / 2.5 hours of NJ and NY traffic I turned ECO back off as the slow rolling traffic, step on gas even gently, hesitation I did not like. I was still gentle in gas pedal application but felt more comfortable with actual having a response without needing to step on gas a lot more.

I agree. Honda A/C sux. I freeze my a-s off in my Toyota's. Honda A/C works good if you drive at night, and all my windows are tinted except the front doors and windshield. There is NO tint on the Toyota's.,,,,and still freeze...

Only issues with AC we've had in our CRV is from the leaking AC shaft and a condenser leaking. Other than that, when the system is actually working and not leaking, it's been fantastic. Same with our Odyssey. It'll freeze you out.
