Does it bug you people taking their dogs shopping in stores?

Unless a store has a well known no-dogs policy, I have no problem with dogs in stores. I take mine to Home Depot sometimes, but that's just so people will think I'm a tough guy....my pup is a Shih Tzu 😁

True certified service animals are fine by me pretty much anywhere; they are well behaved and present no concerns or dangers. I see them as a viable extension of the disabled person.

ESAs are OK in casual open places, but not high-end establishments or food sales/service places. And absolutely no ESAs in confined areas of long duration such as commercial passenger flights; your right to emotional support does not trump my right to not be annoyed by your constantly yapping dog, cat urinating under my seat, or peacock dropping the deuce in the aisle (all of which have been documented in YT vids). ESAs are not covered by law as service animals are, and so I support the right of the establishment to set its own rules in this regard.

In general public areas like hardware stores or farm supply stores, I'm fine with it as long as the animal is well behaved. If the animal is disruptive or aggressive, absolutely not anywhere in public.

In fact, I'll make this a generality ...
I expect both the human and the animal to be well behaved and decently groomed. I don't want to sit next to a stinky person any more than a grungy dog in a public area. Learn to control yourself and your animal, and we'll get along fine, if even only in passing. Ill mannered animals (and children) are just a reflection of their guardians.

The only legitimate reason for taking your dog into the store is, in my opinion,

If it is so sunny and hot out that you cannot safely leave the animal in the car. But if its a poorly behaved dog, you should drop the dog off at home before you go back out to go shopping.

There are people who are fearful of dogs and other animals. If they are in the store shopping, and somebody comes in with their dog, it could cause distress. I know, if someone came in wearing their Burmese python, I would not be thrilled.
If it's hot and sunny, why take your dog in the first place shopping?

Vacation I can maybe understand.

Does not apply to service animals!
We travel with our dogs in our camper a lot but I would never bring them inside a store unless a pet store. Otherwise leave the animals at home, no excuses. We take turns sitting in the vehicle with the AC on to go inside a store when we travel. It's rude to force my dog on others.

I generally don't mind dogs IF they have a responsible, well behaved person on their leash. I live on a farm, so I'm not overly fearful of dirt, germs, bugs, and other nasties (within reason).

I love dogs but agree. They don’t need to go in restaurants and such. And sure service and police dogs are different. Jmoymmv

I like dogs generally so the dogs themselves don't bug me so much as the attitude of the entitled owners of those fake "service" dogs.
You just made me think of a friend Rob from college. I mean we were 20 so it was funny then. He used a Yorkshire terrier and pretended it was a service dog. One day Amtrak told him no.

Beyond annoying when the dog walks up and sniffs you and owner says “he’s friendly”.

Keep your f’ing dog in control and away from people trying to shop. We don’t care about your pet.

I had someone say something similar once, along the lines of "he safe" - I thought about it a few seconds too late right then but I'm waiting to use "I'm not" back. I absolutely despise a dog sticking it's nose on me. I've stepped in dog scat in a parking lot. It might not have been a pet, lord knows there are strays out there but I doubt it. This was left right at my drivers door and in there was a row of mulch and shrubs in front of that row. More believing that Princess Diddlydoopop was too lazy to let the little snit go the extra 6 feet to that and way too lazy to clean it up.

Same place I put my food. Dog butt from previous shopper just in there!
The dog could be less dirty than the cart, which also transports leaky raw meat packaging, children whose feet and hands touch the floor and any surface of the cart, etc.

Of all the things to get bent out of shape over, this would be pretty low on the list.

Owners that let their dogs be wild is too much, but have you seen how some toddlers act?

I never take my dogs in stores like that, but I have no issue with well behaved dogs in such places.

I never thought of taking my dog into a store until I saw a sign on the door inviting me to do so.

My local Tractor Supply brings a vet in regularly to immunize shoppers' dogs at discount price.
