Does it bug you people taking their dogs shopping in stores?

It's just another excuse to accommodate bad/rude behavior in our postmodern world. Most folks (not all, of course) don't train their dogs and just yell at them to stop whatever poor behavior they exhibit. Heaven forbid we have some guidelines to live by in polite society.

It's often the first public place people take their dogs for obedience practice and socialization.
I don't want to be part of someone's dog training and I don't enjoy having my butt sniffed in the nuts and bolt aisle.

Animals are unpredictable. I know many doctors an one horror story was when a golden ripped a toddlers genitals off. "He won't hurt nobody."

Maybe my experience is different, maybe there is some PTSD, and I will defend my self if an animal comes too close to me in a store, stiff verbal warning or I walk away.

Dog lovers, if your beast sneaks up on me or a family member at HD and I'm in the hammer aisle, it ain't gonna be pretty, sorry not sorry.

I have been chased by dogs before, I have been bit by dogs before, and have defended my self against them. Most are all bark no bite, previous kicks in the snout have been successful.

I have called animal control multiple times and IDK what these officers say to the owners but it what ever they did, those owners hide those dogs now lol.

At Home Depot or Tractor Supply sure. In Walmart and other grocery stores in the cart can't stand it. I love dogs but don't want to put food where your dog put his butt. Sure wish a manager would grow a pair and tell people it's not allowed but the policy is probably from corporate, don't upset anyone. Here people don't even bother to get the fake support animal harnesses, just walk in with them on a leash.
I would much prefer a dog in a shopping cart to a kid in a dirty diaper.

Wow. A lot of fear and anger there. Maybe you should get counseling as to why you dislike dogs so much? Hitting a dog with a hammer at Home Depot? Really?

Fear, maybe? Could be PTSD? Just shows dog owners shouldn't expect everyone else is a dog lover and should keep their dogs to themselves.

If me or a family member is attacked and I have a hammer in my hand, what am I going to do? What would you do?

I try to avoid these situations though, if there is a dog in an aisle I want to go into, I'll wait and go look at tools or something else.

Bottom line is you don't know what people have been through as kids and adults and can't expect everyone will act the same when some drooling beast comes up to their crotch.

I’m ok with it as long as it’s not a place where food is sold/served. There are some food venues in Westerly (RI) where they let the bougie residents bring their pets in…..I don’t think they should be allowed in food venues. I have a Newfoundland mix (he’s pretty big) and I refrain from taking him to indoor public places only because his size in a bit menacing.
On the other hand, it’s the small dogs you need to watch out for. I’ve never been bitten or threatened by a large dog but two small dogs (a ****zu and a chihuahua) have come at me for no reason.

I've seen chihuahuas run into traffic trying to chase a car going 40mph, it's funny but also shows how crazy they are.

Lol, yes they have “little man syndrome”. One went after my Newfie at the dog park (same one that came at me) bit him in the neck and my dog was just “is that all you have little man?” My dog didn’t even growl at him which is good because just sitting on that poor little thing would have crushed him.
Bottom line is any animal is unpredictable, which is why I understand your apprehension.

I don’t think anyone loves dogs as much as I do and i too have absolutely no problem with properly trained service dogs in stores.

Of course it’s up to store policy but in general I feel it’s best that dogs get left home.

Asking the general population to be accepting of your personal pet I think is asking too much. The general public should not be forced to accept the dog is not a danger even if you know they’re not.

I have seen some dogs freak out in a store scaring people and some people and children are rightfully fearful.

Just do a search with this term = dog bites in Home Depot stores ( or your favorite retailer)

I think this is very well said. I’m a huge dog lover. I’ve always had dogs. But I only take them to places generally understood to allow dogs like outdoor parks and such. At the end of the day it’s an animal. I have unfortunately been indirectly involved in a few dog bite incidents in my life. Not a single owner ever admitted that their dog did anything wrong despite the overwhelming evidence that it had. In all but one instance the dog was extremely well-behaved. They were just all in bad situations, got stressed out, thought something was wrong, and then acted like dogs.

Sounds like you need an emotional support animal for your PTSD.

Dogs have no business in any store. I was in home depot a few weeks ago. A girl was in there with her rotwieller, this dog dropped a loaf on the floor, you could smell it 3 isles over, and she just walked away like it never happened.
Hey man, chill out, I mean, everyone loves dogs when they go shopping so clearly this kind of thing shouldn't bother anyone b/c "imagine being upset about dogs in public" as someone above said. When did taking your dog into a store even become something anyone would consider doing? About the only one I get is the Petco etc. b/c they say it's welcome and it's a pet store. Home Depot...seriously? You can't leave your dog at home to get light bulbs? Also this just in, dogs are not humans. Ok, better go feed Izzy The Dog....haha
