Do diesel fuel system cleaners work? If so, what makes one the best?

Having owned mostly diesels, I can say with certainty that diesel fuel additives are beneficial. Lubricity in ULSD has been historically lacking in our fuel and the average cetane rating just meets the bare minimum.

The result is significantly high scar wear ratings on typical untreated pump fuel, which can lead to premature failures in HPFPs, injector imbalances, less-than-stellar fuel economy and increased DPF regen rates. These issues can be significantly mitigated and improved simply by using a quality fuel supplement.

And with today's extremely sensitive diesel equipment as well as expensive exhaust aftertreatment systems, an ounce of prevention is so much better than a pound of cure.

I’ve tested Diesel Fuel Cleaners.
For PEA additives:

BG 245 and Texaco Techron are the best.

Interesting test! I am going to look into getting some BG245. I have a slight injector click on one of my injectors. Whether that's the injector or the nozzle being contaminated I am not sure. Worth a go though! The car is on 61k miles now so probably has some significant build up. Thanks for the test. Interesting stuff.
