The reason I ask is because I changed the oil today on the '00 Silverado 5.3. I had a Mobil 1 201 from a free MIR at PepBoys last year.

I must have grabbed the wrong one b/c I needed the Mobil 1 206.

I went to OReillys and had them swap it out. The Mobil 1 206 was the new Extended Performance version.

No big deal, but is there even a difference between regular Mobil 1 filters, and the EP versions?

Well, I don't think so. I've been buying Mobil 1 filters since they were white and didn't have any flutes, and to me they look exactly the same. IMHO they are just relabled.

Having said that, of course I haven't sawn one open to look, but from what I see they appear to be identical (just black now).

I recall reading that thread, you think that there is a substantial difference? I guess I don't really understand the data presented there. What part is the most important you see?

M1==== 50% multi-pass efficiency @ 10 microns
M1-EP==99.2% " " " " "
Mobil 1 Extended Performance also has twice the contaminant holding capacity of the leading brand.
