Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy or EP since purchased at 99k
Unknown miles on this OCI, maybe 4k.
I just change it based on the MM.

Out: 90915-yzzn1, Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20
In: Mobil 1-203a (import) Mobil 1 ESP 0w20


Normally don't track or C&P on this vehicle but I saw a post talking about these Denso filters separating at ths glued base and had to cut it and see.

I had replaced the denso with another (newer) one, but upon cutting this one open, I swapped it for the Mobil 1 filter. The newer Denso looked fine internally.

I had a YZZA5 that failed in a similar fashion. 3500 mi OCI. The element in question came from the dealer. This was about two years ago.

Definitely not confidence inspiring, especially since the failed one was only from early '25.

Thanks for the C&P! It's interesting to see this failure, normally these Denso made filters are top notch. PGI only I suppose, even for Toyota.

On the cutter this evening is a Toyota 90915-YZZN1. This filter was paired with TGMO 0w16 for ~7k miles. I don't remember the exact mileage, I forgot to keep records this OCI. These filters may be had from your local Toyota dealer for ~$4. My local dealer will even let me bring in a jug for TGMO 0w16 at ~$6 a quart.

This filter is off a 2019 Toyota Camry Hybrid w/ 126k miles. I bought the car with ~70k miles in 2021. Records show, before I owned it, it had a steady dose of 5k OCIs w/ TGMO 0w16 and Toyota filter. Since I have owned it, it has had anywhere from 6k to 11k mile OCIs. I have...

That one looked great. The denso is all I've put on this car over several changes, but this is the first change since I've had a cutter (or the reason to cut it)

Not catastrophic but a reason to change your oil/filter frequently. It’s a failure to expect based on the design and I wondered why it didn’t happen regularly. It’s basically a chronic bypass. This probably happens frequently but isn’t documented as most folks don’t open their used spin on filters.

I suspect someone has found a failure with every single filter out there and if the criteria is "don't use it anymore", what are you left with ?

The only way I can think of is the machinery may angle the center tube slightly on assembly and cracks the glue. Its at the adbv end where it is usually cut, maybe sideways pressure or tilting the can with strong hands as it breaks could do this.

Just have to scour the forum every few months to see which filter is the "best" at that time

Recently purchased 6 N1 filters from my local Toyota dealer at just under $5 each. 5k/6 month OCI in my Toyotas. not going to loose any sleep over this

Looks about the same width as the one on post 1. Covers approx half the length of the pleats.

Can you make the glue ring fail by spreading pleats apart with your fingers near the pleat ends? Is it brittle and weak?

No, the rest of it seemed solid still. The filter material itself ripped when i tried.
