Dexos oil vs NON Dexos

I pay little to no attention to DEXOS so I don't know if companies like Castrol, Valvoline, QS, etc, etc had to reformulate their existing oils to meet DEXOS or not. I suspect a lot of oils already met it though.
It is ultimately an additive company matter, not so much the blender. Lubrizol, Afton, Oronite, etc. sell additive solutions that will create a Dexos 1 approved oil if the "recipe" is followed.

Too broad of a question. There are plenty of oils that are listed as an API rated oil only, yet would exceed the DEXOS performance specifications if tested against that metric. But if you’re asking about a bare minimum API rated oil vs a bare minimum DEXOS spec oil, then the DEXOS oil is generally “better” in every measurable category.

Better in what way? What does dexos oils do that SP doesn't? What are you trying to achieve? Does it matter in the real world?

To the customer GM is trying to take out the confusion for the owner when facing the oil isle at WM. To the oil industry GM has found a nice pocket change revenue income.

Its better to have oil that meets dexos GEN3. Sure, it could be a marketing and expensive. But this is something objective, when there is no dexos certification we go into speculations.

So here is a question, are the Dexos approved oil’s better than non Dexos oil ?
Pick two oils. Question is too broad. Many finished lubes far surpass SP and ILSAC in many categories,
which could move them well beyond D1 G3 min performances requirements.

Would I run a Dexos® approved oil in a GM vehicle under warranty. Likely, If I find one I like.

According to Chevron/Oronite-

DEXOS Gen 3 is “better” than API SP/GF-6 in the following metrics:

Turbocharger cleanliness, turbo coolant temp control, oxidation control, piston cleanliness, sludge control, fuel economy, aeration control, and LSPI.
Good work finding the 10 cents a quart delta gain 😷

It dosen't really make a difference. If it's any modern oil regardless of who makes it and it's changed on a regular basis the likelihood of an engine related issue is extremely low. Today's engine oils are that good regardless of being full synthetic or "semi" synthetic.
