Keeping a vehicle for the long haul…oil choice

VRP comes in 0w-20 already

I’d give the Restore and Protect a try, but keep in mind that engine shouldn’t need cleaning at only 16,500 miles using Mobil1 EP every 7,500 miles. I’ve been using Mobil1 EP in my Toyota for 162,000 miles…been considering the Restore and Protect but part of me wonders why? The engine is spotless. Mobil1 EP already is an oil capable of keeping things clean. But this is an oil site, I’m an oil junky…part of me wants to run a conventional oil for a year just so I can clean it out with the Restore and Protect. 🤣🤣 Let’s face it…there’s something wrong with all of us here.
It’s about keeping the rings/ ring grooves clean, not some varnish on the inside of the valve cover. That’s where VRP, HPL, Amsoil come into play.

I would run 0w20 Valvoline Advance. I am in Louisiana and ran 0w20 since new and a couple of 5w20. We get temps up to 100 degrees and lows in the teens. 0w20 handles 6500 rpms well on 3.6 Pentastar. The area I live when you get on interstate you have to get over 80 just to merge so hard acceleration is necessary. I did run 5w30 however I noticed performance and fuel economy dropped. Manual recommends 5w20 however if in a pinch 5w30 is OK however change as soon as possible. 5w30 to me is a fell good grade as it breaks down to 20 grade after awhile. I personally have seen 400k on 20 grade so don't fear running it. That's my opinion.

Long haul?
Use the recommended viscosity or bump it up using any major brand of oil, keeping oil change intervals to no more than 5K mi.

VRP 5W30 every 5K-ish miles and call it a day. Unless you go full boutique (which I admittedly have done/doing for no particular reason), VRP seems to be a great choice for keeping it clean and getting ahead of build up which would cause a burner later in life. $30 or a few pennies less at Walmart in a 5qt jug. I'm sure in the coming months/years, the other big brands will come up with their own version though; seems to be a break through in cleaning/keeping piston rings clean at a reasonable price as attested to by numerous members here.

Thanks for the clarification. I couldn't find 0W-20 HPL PCMO/PCEO on their website. It appears that the 0W- xx viscosity oils that they offer are in their Premium and Premium Plus lines only.
Been using HPL Premium 0W-20 in my wife's Mazda CX-90 for the last 15K miles and sent it off for analysis yesterday. Obviously a totally different car and totally different engine (inline 6 turbo).

I would do 3k oil change interval with a lower cost oil like Kirkland or Supertech. Low mileage intervals don't require the ultimate oil. Any your engine stays cleaner.
Not true. 3k intervals with a lower tier synthetic oil will result in your engine having more deposits than if you had run a higher quality oil for 6k intervals.

You wanna own a turbo gdi dohc GM engine for the long run? Nothing but 30/40 grade euro oil changed at 5k or less is the only thing I'd be doing. M1 esp 5w-30 is a great oil and walmart just began selling it in store and online too. HPL is great but I don't think its necessary. Don't care if it's under warranty they won't scrutinize receipts to see if it's dexos or uoa it. I've been running euro oil in my 6.2 instead of 0w-20 for most of its life which is still under warranty today and that engine needs it less than these turbo mills gm makes.
WM now has M1 0W30 ESP and M1 5W30 ESP side by side on the shelf for $28 per jug … Now to decide which flavor M1 ESP to buy ?
