I bought some 5qt 0W20 PUP that was on sale for my truck and I didn't realize until after that it wasn't dexos approved. I suppose it has a higher level of calcium that could lead to LSPI (?) however I would still prefer to use it.

Should I buy some PP to dilute it?? I was thinking a 50/50.

I use non dexos 10w30 in my GMC canyon. Runs normal. I would just use the PUP you bought and call it a day. But if it’ll keep you up at night, get dexos oil and sleep well

Go to Jiffy or Take 5, or any quick oil change outlets. They don't care whether they pour in Dexos approved or not. As long it's the right viscosity for the vehicle.

On the very few occasions I've taken a company car to one of these places I have found them to be very strict on using what the manual recommends.
That is good to know.

However, Walmart appears to be less strict. I recently changed oil/filter on a neighbor's IS250. The previous change was done at WM and they used the shorty YZZA1-type filter instead of the correct YZZA5-type. At least they marked the sticker with the correct oil (0W-20); whether they actually used that or not is anyone's guess...

I didn’t realize Pennzoil Ultra Platinum had high calcium content, I doubt it does - as far as I knew the Ultra was/is their best oil for this segment and they could care less about acquiring the DEXOS license for it. And I like THAT because GM couldn’t care less about their lifters collapsing or transmissions failing out of power train warranty. So I wouldn’t worry about it.

I assumed all 20w synthetics as well as most 5w30 blends and all full synthetics were Dexos approved. (Some may not have the seal on the jug, but last I knew there was a website showing a list of approved oils.)

Regardless, don’t think one could go wrong with either of the above assuming it’s what your engine requires.
