I get that LSPI issues are a concern for turbo GDI engines - however for non - turbo GDI engines is a DEXOS 1 GEN 2 rated oil really going to buy you any more insurance or performance versus say a DEXOS 1 Gen 1 oil ? I see possibly improved timing chain protection in the Gen 2 version and possibly improved resistance to fuel dilution - anything else if LSPI is not a concern ?

I don't think oil itself can resist fuel dilution. If gasoline is introduced in the sump it will dilute no matter what. The only thing that would determine my choice of oil for non-turbo GDI application would be NOACK numbers. Other than that I don't think it matters that much

My take is that d1G2 is basically a non-issue if you don't have a DIT, although it's certainly possible that improvements were made to some oils to pass the timing chain wear test.
dexos1 oils should become rather hard to find as the spec is obsolete now, but I would think running an oil like PUP that has does not have a Gen 2 license would be of no concern in a NA DI engine.

Resistance to fuel dilution is impossible.

I running a 10w30 non dexos and the engine is running better than ever. NON dexos Shell paraffinic Synthetic.

I don't have DI but I did have low speed low rev pinging.

Why would I not on a 4 banger pushing a 1+3/4 ton vehicle at 1200 rpm up a hill. Silly.

Funny thing I might not be able to hear ping anymore due to poor hearing, but the car has "chirp the tire" low end torque again.

If I was going up a hill at 1200rpm I would expect pinging. That’s just plain lugging the engine.
