Recently, in another thread, I chronicled a new purchase of a Glock 42 and a run in of the gun, and ammo issues.

In a quest for a load for that gun that functioned 100%, was accurate, and had a viable mount of power, I stumbled upon Defender Ammo at a local gun show. It is their 100Grn, 910 FPS 380 ACP that I have chosen for my carry load....in that gun.

Since, I have purchased more 380 ACP, but also have purchased APRX 500 rounds of 45 ACP and 9mm, both remanufactured and new. By in large, I am very impressed. I have found no difference in reliability, group size, grouping, consistency, etc comparing the reman and new lots of ammo. Further, the ammo itself, in comparison with other commercial loads, has been, superior.

I have not ran and HPs or their Lehigh defense rounds as of yet.....no rifle either.

Prices are excellent as well, and to me are a "local" company.....not a conglomerate, as far as I know. Located near Ft. Bragg in Raeford, NC.....my old stomping grounds.

They are worth consideration for your next ammo purchase.

Looks good and price competitive. Has anyone on YT chrono’d it? Some companies badly over inflate velocities. A lot of my carry ammo is Underwood as they consistently deliver.

What are their shipping charges like for say a case of 1000 9mm practice ammunition?

It's good to hear about reliable ammo from other people. If you don't shoot your guns often it's hard to know what that box of ammo is going to do. When I dusted off the old 38 special last year I opened a brand new box of ammo and probably a 1/4 of it misfired. I have the 38 and a 22 magnum Deringer that rarely gets outside. I always use the shotgun and rifle so I know the ammo for them works.

What brand .38 ammo was it?

Not sure, but as far as accuracy on paper, I have found it, in the case of 45 ACP, just as accurate as Federal Gold Match.

To me, $24 bucks shipping for 1000 rounds of 124 grain

Check your mainspring.

I appreciate anyone that loads 10mm to actual 10mm specifications, instead of “lite” loads, that turn a 10mm pistol into a big, expensive, low capacity .40 S&W.

Serious answer- I have worked in the world of terminal ballistics for the best part of two decades. Here is the gist:

1. There is no magic bullet. Shot placement matters more than magic bullets. Multiple holes in a vital area is what stops the fight.

2. Reliability in feed/fire/function/eject/reload is the first requirement. The bullet expanding is secondary to all of that.

3. Accuracy and Precision are not the same thing. You need to accurately hit the target with ammunition that is adequately precise to repeatedly impact at your point of aim. Accuracy includes practical components like trigger control, sights, and similar. Precision is repeatability.

4. All handgun bullets are poor performers at stopping mammals. Expect to have to use a lot of it and for it to require time to stop.

5. Bullets stop mammals by 3 mechanisms: Blood loss, central nervous system hit, or breaking bones and eliminating mobility. Generally, it is the first one and you need the blood out/air in for it to happen. That works best with an entrance and exit wound, so you want penetration from about 12-16 inches.

6. Barrier blind is not real, but it is the right goal. You need to know what your bullet does on the far side of glass, doors, and similar.

7. Your ammo needs to be cheap enough to replace it regularly and test all mags with it. You must validate your POA/POI with duty ammo.

8. If possible, rifles are a better option than handguns.

9. In general terms, the optimal duty load for most (not all) calibers is a heavy for caliber bonded bullet that is built with an expansion window at whatever velocity your duty load with be at when it crosses the 50 yrd line.

10. In 9mm, something along the lines of Speer G2 in 147 gr or Hornady Critical duty in 135 is a good example of the above.
