with the new car I had one free oil change written into the deal (I thought that Chrysler would send a coupon for another freebie to give me a total of 2...didn't happen this time); took the Patriot in for the freebie & asked how much going to synthetic would be...$15-$20 is what they said so I opted for full synthetic; upon checkout there was nothing due...had the cashier verify with the service writer and basically I got a $40-$50 oil change for free (belated Christmas present)!!! my dealer uses Pennzoil stuff for all the Dodge, Chrysler, and Jeep vehicles...the engine will be well protected for this winter!

Good point. I doubt they update the computer everytime the tanker truck arrives. Chances are it's Pennzoil though, they sell to pretty much all the oil change places. Almost like Pennzoil runs the world.

I always try to negotiate free oil changes with the dealer when buying a new car.

with my duramax I negotiated 2 additional oil changes (synthetic) for free.
plus the 1st one is on them
so total I got $450 of oil changes for free :-)

this backfired when I bought my Honda fit, the sale guy promised 5 extra oil changes, but he never put anything down on paper (my mistake for trusting him) and he left the dealership.

cool Ford has this and I thought it was "unbeatable" and it is for average joe but..

Ford's "The WORKS deal: oil change, tire rotation etc"

but, your deal with Pennzoil products beats that syn blend esp if you can get PYB or PUP!

I'm guessing you got the standard bulk oil, not synthetic.
Scenario at dealerships: Young kid hear's manager yell "Oil change here", runs to car, puts in bulk oil, signals to manager when done. Synthetic never gets communicated. I could be wrong.

Don't trust dealerships unless you want Motorcraft semi synthetic and are willing and able to go to a FORD dealership whose bulk oil is MC and has been for ages?!?! The lube shops are even worse, atleast at a dealership you can research beforehand and despite the Indiana Jones and the pit of snakes, there isn't anything the snakes can do about their decision of what bulk oil they contracted with.

Yeah, I ran it in the rogue with about 6K miles, and wasn't overly impressed, but my engine was not broken in yet. Ran the 0w20 in the wifes Subaru, and I didn't like that either. Car ate it at the speed of light.

Castrol makes her run like a well oil machine sliding down pig-fat greased rails - a feeling that has been gone from most oils for over a decade.
I can make my own decisions. The general public's opinion is worthless to me.

I will probably treat it as PYB and change it @3750-4000 miles ('severe' driving interval per owners manual); if I decide to extend the interval (let the OLM do it's job) I will have them emphatically confirm it to be synthetic since the reminder sticker indicates a 7000 mile interval for the next oil change

anyhoo, seems a few respondents are skeptical of dealership services...guess remaining vigilant is a good thing
