Cost of .22 Ammo

.22lr ammo prices can be in very wide range. There is bulk ammo that's on cheaper side and there is match ammo that can cost more than 5x. Semi autos may not like some ammo so one needs to test a few brands and varieties. Bolt guns are usually more forgiving but if accuracy and consistency is required then some testing of diff brands, varieties and lot numbers is in order.
I shoot only bolt rifle in that caliber and while CCI Std Velocity shoots well out of my gun, I like SK ammo better but it's more expensive; there is better ammo but it makes no diff or sense for my shooting.
Subsonic or standard velocity ammo normally shoots more accurately and consistently but if you need to go beyond 300 yards you may have to use high velocity ammo.
Zzzzzz... keyboard experts are a cheap Internet commodity

I loaded up many years before that, and look in amazement at the cost of ammo. I have 500 round bricks of Remington Target ammo for .22LR marked $7.99.

You beat me. (I think I posted this before)..... I still have got a ton of this stuff from when I bought it back in the 90's from our local Walmart here in town. (Before they built the big Supercenter). They had it all shrink wrapped on a big pallet in the sporting goods section for $8.88 for a carton of 550. It comes out to a little over 1-1/2 cents a round.

It's good ammo. Still shoots like the day I bought it.

I think I have some 16ga somewhere with the old lime green sticker. Waxed tubes.

You are complaining about $.09 per round? We pay $1 per round plus the $5 background check plus 8.75 tax
That’s absolutely ridiculous. At some point, all of the restrictions and unnecessary costs imposed by California on the shooting sports are going to be successfully challenged as being so onerous as to be an infringement on the 2A.
