Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. is recalling more than 24,000 tires sold under the Cooper and Mastercraft brands, as well as tires produced for Big O Tires and Les Schwab Tire Centers.

Cooper says the 24,459 tires may have a ply cord distortion which could lead to a parting of the lower sidewall compounds extending to the cord material — and that could lead to tire failure. Driving at high speeds may cause the condition to occur, and Cooper says it should be avoided until the tires have been inspected and replaced if they fall under the specified tire identification numbers.

The recall covers certain size 235/65R18 Cooper Discoverer SRX, Evolution H/T, Discoverer HTP, Adventurer H/T CUV, Big O Big Foot A/S, Les Schwab Back Country QS3 Touring HT and Mastercraft Courser HSX Tour tires.

I love my cooper at3 with 30k on them they still ride and look new.
On the other hand I got some coppers for my daughters truck tire kingdom exclusives, 30k worn out.

We have 47k miles on CST Ultra Tourings in 205-50-17 size on our '12 Subaru Impreza. They've performed well and worn extremely well (the previous Conti PureContacts went 50k) as they have maybe at least 10k for all to hit the wear bars. They've actually worn more in the center with my typical few psi over spec inflation. Downside is they've gotten very noisy since going about 25k miles. I considered getting them replaced under warranty but the partial credit was not quite worth it to us as against living with the noise while running the tire life out. The best way to describe the noise is kind of like the wheel bearings are going at all four corners.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy the better rated Coopers (never had any, mainly due to lack of local dealers), or more Conti's after the great experience with PureContacts. I bought General winter tires after having a Meh experience with their all seasons, and was well rewarded with great winter performance and long life.

While I support the right of anyone to shun brands that failed to deliver value in the past, I try to keep am open mind to the best value, no matter what the brand. Unfortunately a few here will not allow a certain brand to even be mentioned without concerted vociferous objections. Just mentioning that brand does not constitute worship.

Interesting, I'm considering a Cooper Discoverer A/T3 Sport or Discoverer S/T Maxx in 245/70r16 for my Nissan. All of the reviews are excellent and have been recommended from friends using both types, one on little Suzuki Jimny and one on GC 2.7 diesel.

According to them they are great both on pavement and off road, with GC driver being long time off roader.

I totally Forgot about this thread an that Solar tires were made by Sumi.....explains why I have seen so many lately...

Shortly of not making the 80k (mostly city driving tough) and they wore super fast toward the end..they were good tires. Think I cracked about 55k on them...

Thought about trying the Evolution tire, but got a good deal on the Goodyear Assurance tire......
