On the new nissan vq35de's they are now recommending 0w-20 oil. Are these different engines than the vq35's built before? Tighter tolerances? The recommendation for my 2010 Murano with the vq35de is spec'd for 5w30. I figured there would be a back spec, but I can't find much info.

Or should one run 5w30 in the new models?

If 2010 say 5w30 oil, then use 5w30. I use an excellent, but cheap Full Syntheic brand called "Tuxton". Made in U.S.A since 1960's. I buy a jug in Canada from a Wholesale oil distributior for $27. I have very positive results from that oil. Specially in the winter cold starting.

They must have calibrated the engine again in the newer models. Use 5w30 for your 2010 vehicle if that's what the manual recommend.
Don't use 0w20 in your 2010 if the manual don't recommend it will seize the engine.
Try "Tuxton" oil if you can get it. Cheap, but excellent. I use full synthetic.

No...no...no...OMG. If your 2010 vehicle manual say 5w30 use ONLY 5w30 oil. They must have recalibrated parts of the engine in the newer models.

I would use the engine oil recommended in the manual while you are within the warranty period. Outside the warranty period I would move back to 5w30.

You did join just to promote that oil, didn't you?

Yeah it will only last 290K instead of 300K. All joking aside, just use what the manufacturer recommends. As long as you use an oil meeting the manufacturers specs and change at the appropriate interval you have nothing to worry about. Sleep easy.
