Comparisons of filtering ability.

I used the "search" box with various terms like"oil filter comparisons" and i looked for quite a while and really dont find any such comparisons.
Im looking at MARF extraguard,rotaloruP classic and HCSOB distance+
Can someone direct me on this site where there may be a reasonable accurate filtering rating of oil filters. Better yet, the three I mentioned above.of course thats assuming there is one that will help me narrow it down

I've seen that study before, and always wondered why the PureOne got a C- in the 30um filtering, and the Puro Classic got a B.

Well, his "testing" doesn't seem particularly scientific...

Wow! just the type of comp I wanted to see and right out the gate with the first reply. I only read the first part and chart. Im suprised that marf extended rated so high from all the neg comments Ive seen from time to time.

I noticed marf Hi Mi filter claims to have time released ingredients to prolong engine life.... . really? Any informed comments on this one?

That test is old. Fram doesn't make that filter any more.
Fram makes a great filter. Some folks needlessly hate them based on mindless drivel and their fathers and granpaw's incomplete thoughts.
Pretty much any name brand filter is as good as any engine will ever need. Some can trap more weight in contaminants then others which is why there are tiers.
The fram ultra is pretty much as good as it gets,especially for the price.

..... Fram doesn't make that filter any more.....

Sure they do, on sale every day at WM. The filter now discontinued is the Double Guard.

As for the gmc basement patch test, pretty much discredited now for test validity and reliabilty. Many patch test results are contrary to published ISO 4548-12 efficiency test results, which is the industry standard for efficiency. Also filters with the same media like Wix-Napa Gold and Fram Extra Guard and the referenced High Mileage show different patch test results.

So bottom line, the gmc dissection pics are worthwhile, patch test results, not so much.

The girlfriend's dad used one on their Navigator. Never heard of a high mileage filter until then. A Fram technician here actually posted a pretty detailed description about them. They have a basket that releases the add pack over time. Pretty interesting really.. I'm betting other companies will pick up on the idea.

I don't think we're seeing it up here any longer, though. Or, at least Canadian Tire and Partsource are no longer carrying it, and Walmart Canada is out of the Fram business altogether.

Following oil filter ratings posted in the internet that do not involve any actual filter testing really isnt a good idea. All reputable filter makers will posy efficiency using the ISO-4548-12 test either on the box or on their respective websites. Look for efficiency ratings at 20 microns, anything posted at particle sizes bigger than that is useless as any filter will remove bowling balls from your oil. Filter ratings by online filter testers are nothing more than unqualified opinions.
