Ok guys. This is what's happening. it's a 2006 2.3L Suzuki. We've had it since new and I'm the only one that's worked on this car. For the first 25k of it's life I used a Purolator (white) and 5w30 SM dino of whatever brand was on sale, Castrol, Valvoline, ETC. At 25k I switched to PP 5-30. The oil turned black and I changed it at 30k with a white purolator and continued 5w30 PP. Now the car is at approx 33k and it's making startup noises if it sits over night. Just for a second after startup... dry lifter noise. then it shuts right up. This started within the last 1k miles. The oil looks nice and clean. Any ideas guys? Think I should change the filter out and top it off? Not many options for a filter on this car... under $5. That's why I've stuck with a white Purolator. This car has NEVER done this before. Even in extreme cold weather, never. and now it's 70*F outside and has issues.

FYI the filter mounts dome down, threads up. so the ADBV does not matter.

I have had the same issues with PP. I changed to it temporarily from Amsoil to do an Auto-Rx cleaning and got the noise. I didn't change the type of filter just the oil. I thought it might be the ARX causing it, but now it's on the rinse cycle and still doing it so I think it's the oil causing it. I'm putting up with it because I need the oil to do the rinse properly, then I will be going back to my Amsoil. It was very mild here today like 50oF and it did it the same as when it was -5oF... Try a 5w20 Pennzoil Platinum and see how it runs... Maybe it's just too thick for your lifters...

Just change the filter for the same one. One instance doesn't mean a whole lot. Any filter can have a failed ADBV

Gary's right. Not enough data to form a conclusion. Try an oem filter and the oem spec weight. If you want a thinner oil,M1 is usually thinner,in grade, than PP.

picked up a Napa gold for it. Give that a shot. I plan on draining the purolator into a clean pan and seeing if maybe it got plugged up. But the ADBV does not matter. the filter is mounted pefectly vertical with threads UP!!! the oil can't run out of it!! only into it!

I had a problem with start up lifter noise that I worked out by changing the filter and oil with several different selections. I ended up with OE Mopar filter and Castrol Syntec 5-30 and the problem has been gone for a few years now.The Napa filter you bought is a Wix filter. I have used them, but prefer the Purolator and OE filters made by Purolator such as Motocraft and Mopar. You might try an OE filter? Castrol Syntec handles morning cold well. You might also try going down one notch in weight. Like try 0 - 30 Castrol German made synthetic. Should be available at Auto Zone.

it's a suzuki. Nearest dealer is 1hr away!! Flip that. We'll see how the Wix does, and maybe another puolator. my choices are limted for this car.
