Coil compressor for McPherson type strut

NEVER use an impact gun on the spring compressor!

Perhaps this clamshell spring compressor might be good. Harbor Freight used to have a good deal, but they jacked up the price on it and now it's over $100 because they only have it in their more expensive Maddox line instead of the cheaper Pittsburgh they used to have :sneaky:
I broke my first set using an impact plus I didn't oil the threads. Those things are dangerous even on a good day.

I have a set of Performance Tools W80559 https://wilmarllc.com/w80559/w80559-strut-spring-compressor.

The jaws are beefy and look onto the coils securely. These work well when the coils are tight as they have lower profile jaws than the blocks used on other sets. I've removed the coil springs with this set from a set of Corolla struts and off of a Prius. These were made in Taiwan and I paid around $30.

Klann.

brake cans are even more dangerous.

car struts i don't mind. I've even cut the last coil with the wonder wheel while still in the strut for less spring tension.

In my experience having a pair of the rod type might not be enough to do the job, so a second set on hand can help seal the deal.

Ordered an A-frame style, which would appear to be much more secure, but the rigid dimensional constraints weren't compatible, so they were returned.
