You make a good point about the bulk beans. You really don't know how fresh the beans in those bins and barrels are. Also, what's in the bin isn't always what the product description card says. I've seen folks scoop a bag of vanilla or other flavored beans into a bag and than dump them in another random bin if they see something they like better.Currently drinking locally-roasted Higher Grounds Decaf Medium whole bean coffee.
It's OK but nothing special. Got it for $12.99/lb out of a bulk dispenser at a grocery and suspect that my beans are light-struck and a bit stale. Probably won't buy it again, at least from that particular store.
I try to avoid anything "freshly roasted" without a roast date. Most stuff available locally doesn't have a roast date.Currently drinking locally-roasted Higher Grounds Decaf Medium whole bean coffee.

Well, I only knew that it was locally roasted...not necessarily freshly roasted.I try to avoid anything "freshly roasted" without a roast date. Most stuff available locally doesn't have a roast date.
I buy most of my beans mail order that are roasted to order with a roast date clearly marked on the bag. Takes a lot of guess work out of the equation.
I was recently in a trendy city out of state with a local coffee roaster. None of the offerings had roast dates so l did not buy anything.
If I run out of beans, my go-to ground coffees are Gevalia House Blend Medium Roast decaf and Yuban Traditional Roast, which I blend to achieve my desired caffeine level.Maxwell House or Folgers. I mix 50/50 regular and decaf.
My elderly mother in law has discovered Starbucks Frappuccinos. Dump enough cream and sugar into anything and it will taste pretty good. Talk about a meal replacement drink. She has no interest in breakfast at all after starting on those.I have never liked the taste of coffee but a few years ago I tried a McDonald’s iced coffee and now I’m hooked!
Before I retired I used to make a hot coffee every morning at work and then dump a ton of ice into it. It is interesting that if I sipped that coffee hot I didn’t like it but just by making it cold I loved it!![]()
