Coffee - Your Current Brew

Red Bay’s good stuff - roasted in Oakland. I actually have their Carter’s Dream here. Highwire in Rockridge and Bicycle Coffee at Jack London Square are also my other Oakland favorites.
That's good to know. Thanks for posting.

I mix these to make Moka Java

So I’ve upped my coffee game a lot more and bought myself a 1Zepresso JX Pro S. The Hario was a good intro to grinding but it isn’t consistent. The JX has a much more consistent grind and it’s faster and easier. I’m also amazed how grind affects the taste. I’m experimenting now.

What have you found about how the grind effects the taste?

First thing I learned from the Hario was that the inconsistent grinds gave me both coarser and fairly fine grounds. My coffee tasted muddy. I’m guessing from the fines? Switched to the moccamaster and using the recommended settings from 1Zepresso it gave me a very strong coffee. I’ve backed it off to a coarser grind over the past 3 brews and it’s getting much more to my liking. I’m now at #4 which to my eye is more of a medium coarse grind. Probably not a coincidence that Moccamaster recommends a medium coarse grind. But I am just at the beginning of my journey. As of just a couple months ago I was using Folgers 😂

Thanks for your explanation. I used a slightly coarser grind this morning because of your comment. I think I noticed somewhat better flavor, but and I will play around with the grind a little more.

Glad to see that you've moved away from Folgers ...

From what I’ve been reading your grind size can also change the coffee from bitter ( too fine) to sour ( too coarse). In the end it seems it’s all about your own taste. Whatever you find works for you is correct 👍

Got myself some new stuff to try.

Peet's Italian Roast. Not digging it.
Cinnabon Caramel Pecan Coffee - It's ok.
Green Mountain Maple Pecan Coffee - It's ok.
Green Mountain Black Granite - OK for what it is. Need to try a few more.
Lavazza Espresso Italiano Coffee - The best of the bunch. Would get more but expensive.

Older buy was a crap load of Starbucks Italian Blend. I dig this one. It's like espresso but coffee.

This stuff is not near as good as their other decaf whole beans. Interesting, not terrible. Well, will use for blending.
Is that the coffee sold at Whole Foods? I think that's the roaster I've seen in WF markets.

Yes nice roast oily beans

EDIT: The whole bean decaf French Roast and medium dark roast have been exceptional. The espresso Bel Conto just seems to lack body and just comes across as "coffee"

This is incredibly inexpensive and will blend with my bling coffees. $17 for 2.5 pounds - and is swiss water decafed. View attachment 141123
I opened my second bag of these that I bought late May and smell was atrocious. Something went very very wrong. They smell old and moldy. Only worse.

Cost will give me my money back, but still. Freshness is a concern with Costco.

Uncommon Grounds is a local roaster and I've heard some very positive comments about them. I saw the coffee at a local market that I frequent and grabbed about 1/2 pound. Tomorrow, or perhaps the day after, I'll give it a try.
