Coffee - Your Current Brew

These two here recently. I know nothing special or extravagant just like to post in case others want to try. The Folgers is pretty good this would be in third place for me in the Folgers line up with Country Roast being first and Black Silk being second. I plan on trying the whole Folgers line eventually they only had one can of this when I got this so you know it must be good and it is pretty good. The Wide Awake stuff is….interesting to say the least. It’s different but still good and drinkable. First time trying a lighter roast coffee normally I like it medium to dark but this isn’t too bad. Found it at Food City as nowhere around here has it so I figured I’d pick it up to try my dad liked it pretty well too he had heard good things on it he said.

When growing up my parents drank Luzianne coffee with chickory in it. I haven't seen it around in years. Currently trying Dallmayer from Germany. It taste a bit grainy. Folgers used to be great but I think they have cheapened it up and not what it used to be. Maybe my taste is changing as I grow older. Hard to find a great brew anymore and too many out there to try out. I wish I could afford pure Kona medium roast. That is the best ever.

I tried the Kona coffee that is Private Selection brand from Kroger it’s actually pretty good in my opinion. Not sure how pure Kona it is though haha.

I think I may try some blends from Red Rooster in Floyd Virginia. A rather unique roaster.

I’ve really been digging on the Good & Gather brand from Target lately which is surprising cause I’m a coffee snob. The Carmel Macchiato and Cinnamon Vanilla are on point. And it’s only $6 for 12oz which ain’t bad either.

Never heard of a "coffee snob" drinking flavored coffees.

Black Rifle Beyond Black. In fairness I don’t like coffee and only consume it for the caffeine. This is what my wife drinks but with a good slug of cheap vanilla creamer it’s not bad.

My thinking is that the marketing hype for coffee is very similar to that of craft beers...Likely the same or similar demographic. "Angry this, Gnarly that IPA....Death Wish coffee, Deadmans Reach, Ravens Brew...

That’s kinda where I am at. The names don’t do anything for me.

Everyone seems to have leveled up on the coffee game too. 10 years ago everything not a premium blend tasted like dishsoap. Now it’s easy to find a decent house-blend. And the flavors blends are pretty good as well.

Agreed. I can walk out of Costco with 2-4 bags of different, very decent whole bean coffee...in 2-3 pound bags for under $16/bag.

Not sure if it's a regional thing, our Costco here in MD has been carrying Mayorga coffee which is roasted locally. Their "Mayan" blend is great, 2lbs for $14 I think. I used to get the Kirkland with the leopard or parrot (both medium-dark roast) but the Mayorga is noticeably better at a similar price.

I ordered a couple from Dillanos, thanks @PimTac. Free shipping on orders over $22 is hard to believe.

The Ava Blonde is really good with a sweet finish, I will order that one again. The Dillons is ok but as PimTac mentioned the medium roast is a little darker than I'm use to with oily beans, but it is good. The Ava medium light is more on par with a medium roast, no oil. Not sure why this is, it appears to be the same with Red Bird.

The other thing is they don't roast to order. I ordered Sunday January 30, the bags had roasting dates of 1/25/22 and 1/27/22 so it's not old coffee but worth noting.

With free shipping I can order less and more often, so fresher beans it is.

Just placed another order of a 2lb bag of Don Pablo's decaf. It's become my favorite decaf at a reasonable price, although the price did increase by $2 after the New Year's.

I have that Ava Blonde on my list for the next time I go there.

They are a pretty big operation in comparison to Red Bird.
