Cigarette butts...really?

Yep, plus some of them flick the butts out the window when driving on the roads. Such a filthy habit. Also a turnoff when I see a pretty lady who smokes.

Apparently, cigarette litter, by weight, is the number one form of litter in the U.S. I was surprised to learn that. Cigarette butts (filters) do not decompose. I find them against the curb in front of my house regularly and I don't even live on a major thoroughfare or cut-through. I pick them up, throw them in the trash, and curse the lazy SOB's every time. But, pigs will be pigs, smokers or non-smokers.

Seriously, smoking and tattoos will take a drop dead gorgeous girl and make her instantly unattractive.

They are cracking down on people flicking cigarettes out of cars here because they will light the brush on fire.

Where I live, nobody cracks down on people who throw butts on the road, unless there is an elevated risk of forest fire.

If I had a say, traffic police would be able to ticket everyone who throws butts on the road.

My MIL is a nurse, smokes, and the hospital campus says no smoking anywhere. So she drives around in her car on breaks.

I put Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w30 in it, gets a lot of short trips.

And the car is disgusting, burn holes in the upholstery, tar everywhere, etc. She keeps her house clean though and rarely smokes inside there.

A large bank here, Huntington won't hire any smokers or nicotine users. Which will be verified when they do a pre-employment drug check.

I don't smoke while driving. When on the road I stop and smoke in designated smoking areas. I have an collection can in my yard for butts. When at work again I smoke in a designated smoking area and dispose of my cigs in the correct collection area.

I agree people are just slobs you should see the big spenders in resorts and casinos. I bet they pay someone to clean their house or live in squaller because a good percentage are just slobs.

$1040 for a (cigarette) butt out the window while driving around here, has been for years.

Being that a cigarette butt is very small...and an officer would need to witness it directly....I can only assume that one person in 10,000 is ever caught doing it. Otherwise, I wouldn't see butts littered all over the side of the road.

Sadly, the only way this will stop is if people are respectful of laws and common decency. That's not going to happen.

^^^ I've seen plenty of clowns throw a lit cigarette butt out the window while flying down the highway, and the sparks fly when it hits the pavement.

Smoking is a filthy, disgusting habit. Why would you think that smokers, who have no issues polluting themselves with their foul, chemical laced smoke, would have any issue polluting by pitching their litter on the ground?

I don't defend smoking, for any reason. Littering is not a prerequisite to smoking, it's a practice of the irresponsible. But really, this kind of crud irritates me. Shoving cologne bottles up the bum, wife beaters, sloppy drunks throwing up in the parking lot, Walmart shoppers that skip the soap isle, the list goes on, but the smoker-hating is childish. If it bothers you, ask for someone to take a step further away, don't throw a hissy fit.

Sorry if the truth hurts. I didn't have to go far tonight to see someone toss their cigarette on the ground, stomp it out with their foot and leave it there. It's a disgusting habit for the weak.

One can say this about many things. Since I have several "weak" habits I try not to judge. I say "try" because I am not THAT good. The smoking part is secondary to me. Littering is the issue. I wonder if the same people who litter with their cigarette detritus also litter in other ways.

You know, I had my concerns that starting this thread would lead to nasty, judgmental comments towards all smokers. That wasn't my intention....and I stated that from the start. It was about smokers that litter.
But a few of you people on here seem to have taken this thread as an opportunity to label smokers in a completely unfair way.

Pop_Rivit and dishdude....it's fine to have an opinion. Everybody does about just about every topic. But is it really necessary to directly insult smokers? Not ALL smokers litter, regardless if you think the habit is disgusting. Simply because a person smokes, doesn't make them guilty of anything. My mother smoked. She was a descent, kind person that was considerate of others. She didn't litter. I've known PLENTY of smokers who had manners far above the average person. Labeling and marginalizing them by making nasty, insulting statements is really uncivil. If you guys want to start a thread discussing your opinions about smoking being disgusting....feel free. But this thread was not intended to become a free-for-all attack against smoking.

Thank you.

A couple of months ago I started to notice cigarette butts around the common mailbox area of my cul de sac. All the same brand and type so probably from the same smoker who thinks it's OK to litter in an area that we pay a lot of money to our HOA to keep clean and well groomed. I picked up 8 or 10 several times because I was sick of looking at them. I few days ago I picked up another half dozen, taped them to a piece of paper and wrote PICK UP YOUR BUTTS !!! in big letters and taped it to the mailboxes. If this doesn't stop the dirtbag I am going to start collecting the butts, figure out who the culprit is and dump them on his porch.

My Mother is a former smoker, and if she hadn't quit a couple decades ago I don't think she would be around today. I get that years ago the tobacco companies tried to cover up how dangerous smoking was, but the evidence is crystal clear now - this is a habit that does nothing but poison your body slowly and fill it with toxins.

^^^ You smoke a cigarette, but it also smokes you.

I know a lot of ex-smokers that say: "It's the stupidest thing I've ever done in my life, and don't know why I ever did it".
