Something interesting happened this year in our relatively affluent section of state. Some tree lots are well stocked and firesaling trees. I actually was able to negotiate a $40 on sale tree down to $20 as it was far from perfect. It’s sole purpose for me is a tree wife always wanted on a 2nd floor balcony on house. So $20 I surprised her as she drove in at night.

I was just in Addison, New Haven Junction, Bristol and a few points south -all in neighboring Vermont- and the number of places selling trees jumped out at me.
They were all fairly well stocked at what I'd call a "late date".

Always happens here. We cut ours from a farm. I know people like to find one in the national forest but too

cold for my old erse!

Lots of Christmas related items go on sale this time of year. Walmart has had its Christmas lights on sale for 25% off for a week or two now, my girlfriend bought a whole bunch more lights a week ago. I guess most people typically buy and put them up before the end of November in order to avoid the colder weather, so in order to get rid of slow moving stock they have to cut prices accordingly. I would imagine they might even have some stuff for 50% off very soon as well

Wonder if people are like me: couldn’t pay me to take a real Christmas tree. Sheds needles, is a fire hazard. Glad to be done with it.

Now if I could just get the wife to go along with my idea to toss a drop cloth over… instead of spending all that time decorating and undecorating, just leave in the corner. Less work.

Speaking of which, wonder when I need to bring it up, I think the holiday is coming soon, no?

But the joy comes with the actual decorating of the tree every year. That’s a great tradition that a lot of families have. And even once the kids are grown up and moved into their own homes a lot of people still enjoy decorating the tree on their own.

My ex wife loves Christmas trees so much that she puts up 3 or 4 of them every year and each one has a different theme than the other. It brings her so much happiness every year to do that 🥰

Mostly CYO trees here but the farms are all in "wind down mode" where the owners are retiring and not planting new stock. They take like nine years to grow so in a few years there'll be a shortfall.

We are big on Christmas in our family circle. Always have been. My siblings still get a live tree every year and I to this day still like real trees, always will. I was admiring one of theirs just last week.

We went artificial many years ago as the kids got older, a second marriage and new home and not very many tree places where we are. Still enjoy it immensely and Christmas will always be big in our families. Very special time of year for all of us and the tree does not change that. I do still look at live trees as special though.

I dont know, we aren't on this planet for a very long time and we always wanted Christmas season to be special for not only the adults but the kids. Something always to reminisce for them, even when I am no longer on this planet.
The tradition continues with my son, who he, his wife and his kids go to a place and cut their own tree. The photo's of the kids, so excited as they walk through the trees deciding which one they want is priceless. It's heart warming seeing it.

This is our newest artificial tree. My wife actually purchased all antique ornaments which she would search and find them "here and there". HEAVY glass with age related imprefections and all. Very unique, so that kind of brings some life to the programmable 1,500 LEDS on the tree. (the fence is for the dog) ;)

We always had a tree when we lived in Western Washington. Just go out in the yard, pick one and cut it down. IMO, Grand Firs make the best Christmas trees. We always liked a tree open enough to actually hang things from the branches. I never liked a sheared tree.

Now, the kids are all long since grown and we keep our emphasis on the religious aspect of Christmas. Christmas starts on the afternoon of December 24th and goes through January 6th. Those who celebrate Christmas as a secular holiday that ends at 5:00 PM on December 25th are free to do it their way.

I like Noble but whatever you like

I have a bunch of Grand 🌲 firs. I can’t bring myself to cut one! Haha

Odd, Wife and I were just discussing this as we just noticed the same here down in MetroWest Mass. We got our tree late for us, yesterday, and the local Boy Scout troop still had many, many trees and was giving their trees and wreaths away asking for a voluntary donation. Typically they would have been down to the last few Charlie Brown trees...

I had a good relationship with IFA. Every year I would buy lots of seedlings from them, plant most of them in gallon pots and grow them for a year before selling them.

Doug Fir, Coastal Redwoods, Grand Fir, Giant Sequoia, Ponderosa Pine, Western Red Cedar, Incense Cedar. The Coastal Redwoods had to be protected from frost that first year.

I grow Christmas trees. Supply and demand seems to be back to normal more or less after the Covid years. Prices are steady, certainly not up. The shortage of Fraser fir in Michigan seemed to have eased up compared to the last 2 or 3 years.

Just one data point, but I seem to "sense" a decline in sales this year in my region. Lots of indicators show a gentle decline in our economy. I wonder if people have less discretionary money for eating out, Christmas trees, etc..?

@supton - expect a visit from Ebenezer Scrooge, lol. Maybe you should watch the original Charlie Brown Christmas?
Just kidding of course. I'm a believer in low-key Christmas.

Our family makes a day trip to NW North Carolina ( Boone,N.C. ) to ‘ choose and cut ‘ tree farms every year. Great fun and memories. My wife won’t even entertain the idea of a ‘ fake Christmas tree ‘ . Every room in our house has something Christmasy and she Loves doing it, so I’m OK with it.
