Somewhat related, is $20/lb ground beef normal in the PNW? I took this picture on a trip to a Portland, Oregon suburb. I know it’s “organic” or whatever, but in Texas and the Midwest, it would be maybe $10-12.

Is that 3 packages for $20? Hard to tell in the pic. If so that's not a bad price.

Okay, now I see that it’s 3-packs. I was expecting the worst after seeing Portland restaurant menu prices… $8.19 Whoppers and places bragging about $16 mixed drinks.

The warehouse clubs also commonly package ground meats as we were discussing, as three 1–lb packs tied together, so the overall price is for 3 lb. I've also seen those at Aldi. One variation is three 1⅓-lb packs together to give 4 lb.

One thing to consider is that certain grocery chains really overcharge for meats, especially beef. Publix, Wegmans, Harris Teeter, and Safeway are among the worst out my way. You don't want to ask about seafood pricing either.
