Castrol edge 10w-30 in our 2007 Toyota fjcruiser. Toyota recommends 5k oci. Filter is a Baldwin.Oil currantly has 4500 miles on it and the change oil soon light has started to show up.

Almost 203k on the truck with no make up oil added. Level is where it was when I last put new oil in it

Let it ride....for 500 miles.

I just changed wifey's oil early for two reasons.
1) I know scheduling may be difficult real soon.
2) I wanted OK old oil for a kid who needs it.

Man, this stuff gets complicated.

The light is blinking to let you know it's coming due. But it's just a dumb 5k reminder, as Toyota "wants" you in the shop to do a rotation and anything else every 5k. Simple plan really: something is required on the 0's and 5's. Usually oil changes on 0's and rotations on both, with air filters and plugs due every so often.

Do what most people: ignore the light. "I didn't see it."

I would change the oil at the 5K mark, which is what the vehicle is telling you to do. If you have a sense that it is too conservative, by all means experiment your way up to a 6,000 or 7,000 mile OCI. But why? The best thinking on Toyotas in my view is that more frequent oil changes are a little better for these cars if ultra long term use is on the table. Also, why are you using 10W instead or 5W?

Let it ride.
I have 228k trouble free miles on my 07 FJ that I've owned since 09 w/20k miles. Only once have I changed the oil before the oil had 10K miles on it. I run various synthetic oils, a large Fram Ultra XG8A full flow filter, and a remote EaBP90 bypass.
Great vehicle that in my case is easy on oil.

With all the talk and pictures of torn media and doubtful bypass hardware and absence of materials specifications, I concluded early on that leaning toward shorter OCI made one a statistically smaller target.
Add in the higher chance of silica ingestion......
Clean is better than dirty

Trouble is, analysis is so costly. If your silicates are low, give it a stretch.
