Car prices to rise due to tariffs and certain vehicles possibly ...

Dang, your comments hit a lot of nerves for us older guys, but in reality you are stating nothing that we don't already know.

I wonder what caused us, as a country, to move towards an entitled lifestyle? Our gasoline is pitifully cheap and yet we complain (less than 1978, inflation adjusted). Bigger, more luxurious everything is the norm - houses, cars, you name it. Remember when Formica was the standard counter top? Our phones, television, heated car seats. I could go on and on.

Is it our (consumer) fault? Industry/corporations pushing cheap? Corporate greed? Greed in general? Laziness? Any answers from you all???????

I see the current situation as simply a much needed readjustment. Look back at history and our big market adjustments have always been painful. I experienced it the worst during the early 1980's recession (a whopper in Michigan). Sold our house and moved down state to keep my career and family intact. We survived. I am grateful for what I have.
Gasoline is pitifully cheap? What time period are you living in. 25 cent a gallon is long gone.
And sorry to disappoint but not all of us are entitled like a person that thinks the now gas price is cheap. $5 here and in other places like Ca even more. Not all of use are in the 6K a month income.

I agree, I wish we could go back to mid 1960's wages and prices, we would be way better off. And along with that shift lose all this tech garbage that has made things so bad.

Fear porn! Manufacturers are sitting on a huge inventory. Land Rover saids they are halting importation. Real reason...they have a 400 day supply on the lots.
If true, that's a horrible statistic; inefficiencint inventory management, slow sales, potential overstocking. Inventory is evil...

If true tell me what state that is in? Or who you know. Cause I want to live there. Because yes you are indept, property tax!
I live in Ontario Canada. Property tax is not what I would consider as debt (and I have never heard of anyone else who does either). Everyone who owns property needs to pay it. In my case it is only $1700 per year and I pay a portion of that every 3 months.

Just because it’s a bill that you have to pay doesn’t make it debt. By your definition then your electricity bill is debt too? Makes no sense. It’s simply a financial obligation, just like buying your groceries or paying your cell phone bill. Nobody has zero financial obligations. To say that property tax is a debt or to say it is “rent” is really a ridiculous statement 🙄

I apologize if this has already been mentioned in the 11 too many to read pages that I didn't read prior to responding.

I am wondering if some dealers will raise prices on imported vehicles that are & have already been here in the United States even prior to the April 2nd tariff, and then blame the tariff's for the cost increase? Unless there is a law preventing the dealers from doing this.

Wouldn't be surprised. A lot of local dealers were advertising the last few weeks to buy before the tariffs hit. Haven't heard any of those commercials since Wednesday.

Is there really any doubt in your mind? I can se this happening ah Toyota and Honda dealers in particular since people love to overpay for those two brands. Even their made in USA stuff will get marked up just the same and people will overpay for them.

Well said. I lament the absence of decent sports sedans from our shores. Admittedly they were few and far between, but they did exist and I miss them.
Me too , but not just sports cars. While I was not a FORD car buyer, I did love and buy their trucks and full size Broncos. I do know lots of people who were life long FORD customers who bought lots of the cars they made. Many people loved their FORD cars. Yet FORD just decided to make the big (far more profit generating) Trucks , SUVs and Mustangs. I have no idea what FORD's profit margin on cars was but it just seems like if all other auto companies in the world are able to make and offer some cars , then FORD should have been able to do similar. Now I do have some respect for FORD as I have heard they are one of the companies that does not have a history of running to Uncle Sam for money like several others have in the past.

At a minimum, I expect window stickers reflecting $600 nitrogen fill, $400 floor mats, $1000 "courtesy package" PDI fee, and $800 window tinting will return.

Bet on it. Not JUST auto industry. Ever notice every single time fuel cost rise that every thing goes up in cost and the blame is on shipping costs. Ok. Probably TRUE for 99.9% of what we buy and just a fact of life.

I just do not ever recall price going back down even a tiny bit once the fuel costs etc.... line back out to the prices they were before.
Why is that?

I went with my aunt to buy a new Prius last Wednesday. The only thing the sales dude talked about the entire time was how it's good we're buying a car TODAY because TARIFFS on all the ones that are coming in that aren't on the lot yet. While it was likely a steaming pile of BS, most people will believe it... I have no doubt the dealers will use this as an excuse to raise prices even more across the board, even on cars that aren't subject to tariffs.

You betcha. Capitalism at it's finest.

My local VW sales guy, whom I have been buying cars from for about 12 years now, said that management was considering increasing prices on cars ALREADY IN THIS COUNTRY AND IN TRANSPORT.

I hope that imported parts don't get too out of hand then, cuz I'll be wrenchin' on the wagon for the foreseeable future.

Don't hold your breath on parts prices, the auto parts store I work at had an announcement in our internal portal thingy to prepare for 100-400 price label changes per week for the next month or so. And that's just on stuff in the front of the store like chemicals and product... I don't have to way to keep track of what is getting more expensive in the back. But I don't doubt it will.

Of course they will. Why wouldn't they? Dealers are in the business of making money.
This goes far beyond the auto market. Prices tend to rise until consumption falls to an unacceptable level.
