Cheap cars are back, but...

What I meant was that all work deserves a living wage. There's no sense that someone who goes out and works every day should be on food stamps, gov't assistance because their employer is ripping them off.
So people working at McDonald's should be able to buy a house and a decent vehicle. Nope

If only it were that simple.

So how is economic situation for average Joe in the US lately? Surely a working and running car for 2-3 grand should be desireable enough for anyone with a tight budget, but if the economy are really that bad even a cheap car is kinda out of reach. Two of mine last purchases was cars at about 2 grand or lower. Cheap cars that have some life in them left are great.

Full time work should bring the wherewithal to provide for decent housing as well as access to personal transportation. It was once this way for those in what we might now look upon as menial jobs.
Those of us fortunate enough to have little to worry about financially should look to boost the fortunes of those who have nothing but worry despite long hours worked.

I don't know about owning a house, but in the past, housing and renting were much much cheaper compared to average wages. So in the average small to mid-size town, a guy flipping burgers 40-50hrs a week could live in an apartment with a functional car, on a pretty basic wage. Now rent could be 60-70% of his wage alone, plus the other basics, there is nothing left.
Income inequality and wealth concentration are pricing below average folks out of the basics, which is a society problem, but it seems too much of the population is too greedy or brainwashed to see and address the underlying issues. Capitalism is good but it needs some tweaking to get more people benefiting, even those with below average abilities.
With more productivity than ever, it would make sense that there is more wealth to share? But right now it seems to be the opposite is happening?

I think in Canada specifically, with immigration massively outpacing housing growth, it set things up to get REALLY lopsided there. Ontario population increased by 4 million people for example.

The whole thing is a balancing act, and all it takes is a few political gaffes to really screw everything up.
