Those PGI made extended life filters are 99% @ 20-25 microns already. Going to 99.9% @ 20u isn't really going to get you any more benefits. Our lobby Microgard Select/Premium Guard XL to change it to a 99.9 @ 20um filter?

Apparently many of the filter brands under the First Brand umbrella are being made at the same factory/factories, and using the same leaf spring stamping machines. However the same assembly issues that plagued the other First Brand filters seem to be following the Champ version also.
That's not true at all. We want it to sell for $2 with a $3 rebateThe worst part would be that the BITOG frugal would want it to sell for $5-7
Yes. Its possible there all made on the same press. They may even be outsourced - common for very high run parts.Apparently many of the filter brands under the First Brand umbrella are being made at the same factory/factories, and using the same leaf spring stamping machines.
That Champ XL end cap issue shown in that thread is the first one like that I've seen posted. If that starts showing up more often, then it would point to an on-going production issue. Yes, every filter brand made may have some production issues once and awhile. It becomes obvious that there's an on-going problem when the same issue pops up all the time. But the leaf spring is not the only issue - for example the one I linked above had the fiber end cap come off, and it didn't appear the glue covered the entire area that it needed.
Every assembly process has the potential for errors. There is no such thing as 100%. However the number of problems encountered here on just a very small sample of C&P is discouraging.
True, but how many Champ XL C&P do we get here in a year. That Champ XL end cap issue shown in that thread is the first one like that I've seen posted. Yeah, no way any oil filter made will meet 6-sigma, lol. Yes, the C&P sample size on the Champ XL is small, but still could have been a hit on a rare issue. Agree, would need more samples to know for sure.True, but how many Champ XL C&P do we get here in a year.
GE made Six Sigma famous. Six Sigma dictated 3.4 defects per 1M opportunities. When we C&P one unit in months and it has a defect - we either have to assume its a bad sign, or run out and buy a lottery ticket.
Yes, but given the number of defects vs number of cut opens around here were likely at 2 sigma. Maybe 1 SigmaYeah, no way any oil filter made will meet 6-sigma, lol. I was commenting on the subject Champ XL end cap issue specifically, but yeah if you want to look at the entire brand, or all brands under a large umbrella like First Brands, Champ Labs or Mann-Hummel then it obviously looks worse when all models are combined.Yes, but given the number of defects vs number of cut opens around here were likely at 2 sigma. Maybe 1 SigmaWhich is my point. Either were very lucky at catching defects, given they sell millions of filters and we cut open what - maybe 1000 a year?
Or there quality is very poor.
When every 5th First Brands filter cut open has a problem, there is definately a problem
Sounds like the market is already "cornered" for a quality $5 filterI’m getting my Carquest Premium oil filters in Canada for $7.85, which works out to $5.48 US
