California Taxing Elec

Net exports count towards who scores the revenue, not where the container is loaded. So if someone from Nevada exports a container through Long Beach, Nevada would score the GDP - in theory. It’s all an estimate as mentioned.

There is money changing hands bcs of west coast shipping

I'm in a rural coop and it's always been rather pricy. They just changed to a demand based rate. But we pay $53 a month just for a hooked up meter. Last months bill.

Wheres @JeffKeryk ?

Sure, you invest in some stuff to save you some money.....then......they hit you with a "savings bill"....what a crock. They have done the same thing in NC for vehicle registration, extra 200 i think for EV and 100 for Hybrid.

In NC, for an inspectable dwelling, you must be hooked up to power and water.
I’m glad to hear this. Nice to know EVs are not getting off the hook on road taxes. I wish is was a little more. Hope your right because you said “think”

Makes sense on the dwelling, is any state different?

Insane!!!!
I paid $200 less same useage.
I’m sorry but it made me laugh.😖
This is what the majority vote for in your state. Amazing how humans are controlled by the alphas

Here is my July 2024 electric bill. You used less than 10% more electric and paid 270% (TWO HUNDRED AND SEVENTY PERCENT)
more for electricity.

I am just speaking for NC. The extra tax is a 100% certainty, in NC anyway. "I think" has to do with the amount, not the tax itself. I do not remember the amount, but it is substantial.

In NC, there is no "road tax", funds for roads come from "gas tax".

Now there is a "road tax" since EVs do not use gasoline they are taxed on their registrations using the info you provided.

Don't think people are going to move over $25.00...............
Let's see just one item. Electricity cost 270% more in CA that Chris posted than I pay on the east coast.
Now they will add another $25 to that.
Let's move onto gasoline. He pays 50% (or more) for gasoline than I pay.

That is just two items out of many items and reasons why people are fleeing the state.

That's a cop out answer-did you read the WHOLE THREAD about what others pay elsewhere?

What does every California thread have others posting nonsensical comments? We get it...you don't like the state...but let's make a coherent argument.
Read it all, Sir and No, not a cop out. Maybe not clear but not a cop out. Facts are California taxes and standard of living are way too high. They keep adding crazy taxes and even just $25 IT ALL ADDS UP to the bottom line of people and that $25 fee we are talking about is $25 less FOOD and GAS for the citizens of California.....That is my point and i could not explain further due to the politics rule on BITOG otherwise I would have gone full in.

CA is still 5th largest economy in the world.
I know bunch of people who moved from TX here, but don't make any assumptions.
Hey that is a good point, but it is less then it was and it will continue to go down. It is a huge state.

Let's get this out in the open as well - I live in Texas but am from Maryland so I will say that Texas is doing dumb stuff as well and people leave states for tons of reasons. Texas is already getting too expensive but still less then most states - for now.

The problem is when they move out to other areas , yet vote for the same policies that they ran away from.
Oh I know, it annoys the heck out of me. So clueless people are. I see it all the time, they come here, complain and want someone to take care of their problems. Like HELLO? I think. That is how it all starts, they are clueless as to who pays for their wants.

YES! My point is for every tax (be it $1 or $25 - whatever) that is LESS money the people have for food, gas, rent/mortage etc... not a hard concept to understand

One thing you can count on: California will come after your money. They are crying about excess demand now, before many of the electrical mandates really kick in (like EV's, electric water heaters, Furness, and stoves, etc).
Most TV watchers can not think that far ahead.

So in 2023 it grew after a few years of decline.

There is still about 39 million in the state. It's not a ghost town.

I see in my neighborhood, which is upper middle class, houses going for at minimum $600,000, etc., and people asking for diapers on the neighborhood page, and then the same people, after spending time and time bragging about how their house gained in value, complaining about real estate taxes catching up with house values. The thing is, if you buy a home that from get-go is expensive, live in an area that is gaining value like crazy, but end up asking for diapers, it is no one fault but yours.
The city runs our local utility company. It is a non-profit organization. But they have to stay in business. They cannot run a deficit. Hence, fixed-fee bcs. for example, I have solar panels and infrastructure to my house that takes electricity from my panels to the grid and from the grid to my house, costs money. And that is perfectly fine. Electricity is not a right! And no, those $25 is not a tax.
