California May Ban Dark Car Colors

No offense to anyone that lives there, but I'm holding out for the next 'big one' that will break Caulifornia free from the rest of USA and they can become their own country. Saw it in a movie once, grand idea.

Because the other nine cents goes into health care for illegal immigrants!

+1 on cali breaking away .
if you want a cooler car buy a lighter color.voluntarily.
many vehicles used to be 2 toned, the passenger area was usually a lighter color than the body.this gave a cooler passenger area.
when i get my 2 trucks painted the cab and hood will be light ,bright silver.86 dodge will have a red body and the 82 dodge will have a gray body.hopefully this will help in the georgia summers.

But not when it comes to insurance money. Every time disaster hits California, my insurance rates go up, and up for everyone else in the US. Us poor ole folk that live in the boring Midwest - where we have no earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, or hurricanes - have to prop up the insurance industry every time disaster strikes in the exciting parts of our country.

I'll paint my roof and trunk white to prevent heating, side panels yellow for visibility, and hood and dashboard charcoal flat black to reduce glare.

Controlling your appliances and telling you what colour car you can buy. Who was Arnold's father again? Wasn't he involved in some type of fraternity that may or may not be related to these types of decisions? Perhaps they're reserving all the black coloured cars for the SS-- i mean the govt official vehicles and secret service.......

Funny, we might see less black cars because they absorb more heat from the sun but NOT because they're statistically the most likely color of car to be hit by other vehicles.

I think this is a case of over-regulation, but I do agree that current black cars tend to absorb and retain more heat from sunlight. Here are some funny pics of an idiot (me) leaving a can of compressed air in his black car last spring: Canned Air Meets Civic Windshield

Edit: Here are a couple of the pics on ImageVenue:

The most unsafe colors in terms of visbility are silver and grey.

Black cars are heat efficient. Ask anybody who lives in a cold climate.

You could be right... I'm parroting statistics learned at a NM driver improvement course.

So that's why everyone pulls out in front of me when I'm driving my silver Grand Marquis, and not in my blue Chevy SUV?

Hmmm..I've found tornado alley to be another game of environmental lottery. I guess there's not as many high density population centers struck by them.

...down heah in the Sunny South, we park in the shade in the Summer, and park in Full Sun in the Winter...but we crack a window or two about a half-inch...works pretty good...

Wait, its California...never mind!

+1, one place I have no interest in ever living.

This whole issue could be solved if CA would just require everyone to go back to 4-70 air conditioning like my Dad had in his 1964 BelAir wagon.

For all you guys who don't know what 4-70 AC is it's all 4 windows down at 70mph...

No kidding.

CAFE isn't banning black cars specifically, just changing their rules so that black cars cannot be legally sold.

Somebody please point out the difference to me.

I heard only albino's will be allowed to live there because Black's & Mexicans absorb too much heat & require extra AC to cool them off....
