Kick out the illegal's. The population would be cut in half.

Seriously though, they think that light colored cars will save fuel when everyone and their uncle is either going 95 on the highway or sitting in four lanes of bumper to bumper for three hours. Yeah, we're gonna save a LOT of fuel.

They've been doing that here since the late 70s, for electric water heaters and AC units. It's an optional program.

I have had my electric hot water tank hooked up to an FM receiver controlled by the electric company for over 12 years. They shut off the power to it with an FM signal. They installed it FREE with a contract that gives me a 16% discount on my bill. I have a highly insulated 80 gal tank and have never run low on hot water yet. The discount has paid for the water tank at least 6 times over in 12 years.

Oh yeah...they also sold me the hot water tank ($420 tank $85 installation) for $10x30 months and took out the old tank and put all new shut off valves in and gave me 2 sets of thermostats & elements free,

All cars must be day-glo orange for daytime driving, because it's the most visible color. For nighttime driving your car must feature a bright fluorescent finish (lime, purple, pink, or yellow) that covers at least 75.136% of the vehicles surface area.

White safari roofs (like on a Landy) are also required for daytime driving. Get caught without it on a sunny day, pay a fine. Get caught with it on an overcast day, pay a fine.

I just let the power company put one on my home AC. It's primarily so they can shed power if the system gets overloaded and they won't do it for over something like 15 minutes/hour max.

That is a good idea to motivate the color selection.

Been talking reduction of the population for quite a few years .
The Politicians and the elite are of course exempt . As I say the ones worried about over population should be the first to remove themselves from the earth.

Basic environmental awareness is fine... but having some nameless body out there controlling people's lives on such minute details and such minute "SAVINGS" is not just stupid and incompetent, it's tyranny. Well, it's stupid and incompetent of those who allow it to happen, and for those who impose, it's an expression of tyranny.

Why it gotta be the black cars?

Hmm, lets see... Dark (colours) cars retain heat, right? so, if we have MORE dark cars, that means they will absorb more heat, therefore cooling California off, because there would be less heat in the air, and therefore it would take less electricity to cool down all the buildings! And at night, all that heat they absorbed would make them glow, therefore making them more visible at night and saving more electricity by needing less streetlights! Dang! Elect ME Governator!! Bwwaaaaa!

Looks like CA will have to invest in ALOT of white paint to repaint the hwy patrol cars, not to mention all the b&w local cop cars.

They are going to change them all to red. The California gumnt has generated enough red ink to color every gumnt car in the state.

If they're serious then they should be looking at insulation of the body as well as properties of the windows.

This shouldn't be surprising, a McLuhanesque 'car is an extension of the house' being realized in the form of how efficient it is. People aren't running thru the streets with torches, spitting on each other while yelling about the mandatory building requirements for air tightness, insulation, etc., so they'll eventually be assimilated regarding vehicle efficiency.

CARB is the worst example of a bureaucratic agency allowed to run amok, which is bad enough on its own, but there is a gaggle of states that follow their precedents, so even if you're not a California resident, you may still be affected by their blind hubris.
