Trust me, those places, no matter how well you think you know them, have the same problems as FF places. Even "upper tier" restaurants have more issues that people realise. If you only knew what goes on behind the kitchen doors of almost every restaurant, you would NEVER eat out again.

Yep. Have you seen Gordon Ramsey 'Kitchen Nightmares' ?

I knew a guy in high school that worked in a restaurant and the owner recycled food off of plates all the time.

I totally believe this. I bet it does happen much more than you'd think.

C'mon, BK workers have clean feet! This guy even took a bath in the dishwashing sink. So his feet are as clean as the utensils they cook with!

Agreed. My wife and I eat out only once every couple months, and then it's a high end seafood restaurant-the owner of which we've known and trusted for many years. Besides, compared to most restaurants I can make much better tasting, healthier food at home.

I've worked in a few restaurants. A coffee shop, Bonanza Steak House, McDonalds, and Subway.

Subway was the nastiest place. Bonanza was a close second but I do not know how that particular Subway stayed in business.

I was about 30 when I worked at Subway. I was between jobs and I just didn't bother to try to collect unemployment. I needed a check right away and Subway provided.

I cleaned the refrigerator vault first. You cannot imagine how filthy the shelves and walls were and how hard it was to remove that film.

Then the sandwich prep area. There was so much dessicated and rotted lettuce, olives, and other vegetable mass in there that I could have started my own compost pile.

Then the dining room. More of the same. Between every table leg and wall.

I'm sure the owner thought I had OCD. I just wouldn't want to eat in any place that was that disgusting.

The only bad thing I did was lose a finger cot during a big rush. I can only hope it didn't go into a sandwich. No one complained so if it did...

You ever work at Cheddar's? The first one was in Arlington. I normally don't like chain restaurants, but I love Cheddar's for some reason.

Maybe they wash their feet?

I worked at the Loews theater across the parking lot and the seniors got busted at the Cheddar's by Six Flags on Senior Skip Day.

My son gets to share a "Cookie Monster" with me when he gets a home-run.

+1

The local paper use to post the health inspection reports for restaurants in our county. The rich high class restaurants always got the worse ratings. Rat turds, cockroaches, ants, and filthy bathrooms were always listed in the reports for high class establishments. The greasy burger joints and fast food places almost always got high ratings for cleanliness.

I figured you would probably be familiar with Cheddar's. The one here is always busy despite having not the most visible location. My roommate got $75 in Cheddar's gift cards around Christmas and they were used up in two weeks.

Oh man, if you can access local health inspection reports, especially online, that is one of the most interesting things to read. You'd be stunned at the reports of popular restaurants! I stopped going to one of my favorite places (Chinese All you can eat buffet

) after reading the inspection report. I knew there had to be a catch to the all you can eat snow crab legs for 10 bucks...

I can't believe I never got sick from eating at that place, but it is the most popular in town.
