Building my home

New interior pics are up. The cabinets are in. The countertops are due today or tomorrow. The painter is finishing up the trim and the plumber is supposed to get the water turned on this week. The HVAC is hooked up but they aren't running it yet. The yard is to be seeded sometime this week. Next week they are sanding and finishing the floors then wrap up the following week. I may be in by 23-27th!

Doug it looks nice! I like that sink. I bet you can't wait to get moved in?

We are still framing in the roof and sheeting. We should be 85% complete with that by early next week.

We got the sink idea out of one of the hundred magazines we've looked at. They used a metal (galvanized?) bucket with same sort of handle on it. We were in Amish country (Ohio)looking at furniture and saw the copper kettle. It is a very heavy guage copper. The granite guys took it with them to mount in the shop. I'm not sure when the island granite will be installed.

We are SO anxious to move in. We are crammed into a tiny spare bedroom at my in-laws right now. All our stuff is packed and in storage. It has been rough not having access to our stuff.

I can't wait to see all the millwork you're doing to your house. Being a craftsman style I'm assuming you are going all out on the interior trim work.

The millwork seems so far off at this point since this roof has been a bear. I realize its going to come up quick.

The 8/12 pitch on this roof is scary! From slab to ridge is about 24 feet. My first time up on the sheeted section scared the crap out of me since I am not doing it every day. After a few hours I am fine with it.

I have lost about 8 pounds since I started this project.

You can't put enough fluids in your body with the heat.

SO CLOSE!!!

Just over 2 weeks from moving in if all goes well. The guy actually started cleaning up the yard today and busting up the clay. The hydroseed goes down tomorrow. The floor guy plans to have my floors finished by Friday. The week after this they will put in my countertops, appliances, and wrap up plumbing and any other loose ends.

I finally got the cable company to hook up my house. They ran the cable this past Friday. Finally BROADBAND!!!
cheers.gif
I live outside of town and broadband is very spotty. I've been on dial-up for the last 5 years.

Nice!

Dealing with a Tropical Storm now!!!!
mad.gif
Praying that it doesn't strengthen and moves more northerly away from our path.

A: We slid to page 4! Where are you? Hope you survived the storm OK. Didn't really watch the news so I don't know how it turned out.

We are just barely on track to get our final inspection this week. The movers are scheduled for Friday. Still several little things for me to do once we move in but nothing that affects our inspection. I'll try to post the finished pictures this weekend.

D, we fared ok from the storm. Everything got wet, but dried out nicely after a couple of our toasty 90 degree days.

I fell off the roof Wednesday of last week. The sheeting was dry on the surface, but I hit one slick area and off the roof I went. As I slid I didn't panic so I remembered to absorb the fall by rolling. I hit clean dirt and rolled. I said a few cuss words, dusted myself off and climbed back up there. 8/12 pitch everything slides off!

The roof is 80% dried in. I am conventionally framing the back porch and then the roof can be tied in completely.

We are 3-4 weeks behind schedule now.

Good to hear about your inspection and move in date.

Wow, you are lucky Amkeer, that's scary stuff. A friend of mine slid off a roof like that only he was on a 4x8 plywood sheet. He rode that puppy down and the sheet acted like a parachute and he was unhurt.

A fall is dangerous, no matter the height.
Take care.

Yeah, what he said! Not to scare you but I've heard a stat like half of all falls from 15 (20?) feet are fatal. The back of my roof is nearly 30' high. That's why I won't do roof work.

My move-in should still take place this Friday but my Certificate of Occupancy from the county is up in the air. The kitchen island granite top my not be ready until Monday. This will prevent final plumbing so I may not get the CO until early next week. Either way we should be able to move our stuff in Friday.

Glad to hear things are moving forward again. I'm behind from where we could have been. Everyone has multiple jobs going so you can't always get crews when you're ready.

Hang in there D. I know how excited you and the fam must be about moving in.

Thanks Pete for doing that I meant to repost it.

I have lost 10 pounds that I couldn't afford to lose since I started this framing.
shocked.gif
The 94 degree temperatures will do that.

We started conventionally framing back porch Teusday. Half the rafters are in place now. I anticipate having the roof totally closed in by Teusday.

I'M IN!!! Got the CO (Certificate of Occupancy) yesterday. We spent our first night in the house last night. The house is a wreck with all the boxes. We don't care though because it has been 10 months since we had our own place. We rented for 9 and have been staying with the in-laws for the last 5 weeks. Once we get things put up I'll try to get some better pictures of the interior.

A: How is your house going?

Congrats D!!!!!
cheers.gif
It must feel good to finally have all your efforts pay off. How was the first night sleeping there?

My place is coming along. I will post some pics later. Its almost completely sheeted and then I can completely dry it in. Rain delays and other circumstances have delayed things a bit, but all is well. Its blasting hot!!!!!!

Wife will be glad when I am off the roof. The roof framing is killing me in this hot weather. I am down about 15 pounds in 6 weeks!
shocked.gif
This is why I pushed to do this job in the winter and look what I get, summer.

Thanks!

It was great to sleep in my own bed again. We have a king that is very comfortable. My in-laws were great about us staying there but there is nothing like having privacy and your own bed. We already feel at-home in our new place. Like it was meant for us.

I need to come help you. I'm trying to lose those last 15lbs.
grin.gif

It is great when it is dryed in. It really starts taking shape then.

Put the last pieces of sheeting on the roof yesterday.

Not soon enough my legs and feet feel like they could fall off! The sun was litterally cooking me on that roof too. For those that are math oriented the final sheet tally on the roof 170 sheets of 5/8 plywood. That will equate to about 10200 lbs.!
shocked.gif

The roof needs to be felted now and I will be getting somebody other than me to do it. The areas that I felted were a b%tch! The felt was melting and your feet would start to slip as you sweat more fluids than you can drink. You then look down at the long fall and up at the sun as you cook and melt.

My independence day came early!

I have jumped back on the interior framing with anticipation of having all interior walls up from mechanical rough-in within the next 2 weeks.

Pics to follow later......

New pics are up!

Interior framing continues. I am working on the kids side of the home which is the right hand side. I will be working from right to the left.

Dried in!!!!!!

My independence from the roof!!!!

My feet feel like they are ready to fall off.

Worked on gable sheeting yesterday. I have to build a wall above the block at the rear porch before it can be sheeted. The conventional framing on the back porch needs to be finished out as part of that wall. I designed the back porch framing so no collar ties are required only 2 purlins which will be 2 2x12's on either side of ridge board. If you follow the 6x6 buckets on the slab up you will see where the purlins will be. This is all done to keep the ceiling wide open. The underside will be finished off with 1x6 tongue and groove yellow pine. All beams and posts will be wrapped with select cypress that I have milled down to 1 inch thick. It will be back primed before installation.

Now the fun begins!!!
