Building my home

A: Things are going great but a little slower than I hoped. I left some jobs off for me to do and save some $$$. Problem is there is only one of me and little extra time. I am getting my insulation inspection in my family room today. I have a sub to drywall the ceiling and inside the closet and pantry. I'm going to put T1-11 on the walls. Going for the rustic look. I still have to put closet organizers in the closets. I hung a bar in the two kid's rooms and we hung our stuff there for now.

Started installing kitchen casegoods today. I have all in except two cases, a refrigerator and a pullout cabinet. Once the cases are in I will make a list of peices that need to be made up to finish the outline of the cabinetry. Once completed the granite company can template for tops.

I have started building bathroom vanities. I still need to finish the details on the design, but I am confident with the size of casegoods that enable me to continue building without a final sketch. Normally this is an absolute No No!

Stucco people have delivered materials to the site Thursday so hopefully they will start application in the next few days.

Stress level is rising since I will need to be out of where I am living now the latest November 30th. That gives me 6 weeks to get this place to where I can get a CO and move in.

Things to complete:

trim work
cabinetry
countertops
finish electric
finish plumbing
interior paint
exterior paint
flooring
stucco
HVAC complete
exterior trim
garage doors
driveway
landscaping

A: Been there done that!

I skipped some paint, driveway, landscaping, family room, closet organizers, etc. just to get CO. Of course with a full-time job I'm still working on these things 3 months later. ha-ha!

Ben,

You need to have the majority of the work done to get a CO. Little things they will let you slide, bt you might as well figure the home needs to be completed.

D, I feel your pain already! I figure I have at least 6 more months of work after I move in.

The stucco people came out today about 6 total. They taped the windows, shoveled the dirt from foundation and scratched coated a quarter of the home.

Tomorrow the stucco, plumber and insulators will be out. The plumber will be hooking the main to the home. The insulator will be blowing in the flat ceiling areas of the home. I will be pulling the hair out of my head trying to figure out how to get everything done by November 30!!!!

A: are we there yet? When is the party to break in your new place?

I am just about finished with my family room. The carpet came today but had a flaw in it. They laid it out so I can use the room for Christmas then they will bring the new carpet out and install it. I spent 4 days (2 vacation) working 10 hour days getting that room ready for carpet then this. I had to trim it, finish the electrical hookup, build the staircase (2 steps), build a hearth for my gas stove, tile the pantry, hang a couple doors, etc. I'm really bummed about the carpet.

D, thanks for your interest. We moved in and just recieved CO today. We are about 90% complete with the home at 8 months, thats not to bad.

The whole month of November was 80 hour weeks working on the home. We shipped the kids off to grandparents for thanksgiving holiday and me and the wife worked right through thanksgiving without any turkey. Crazy stuff!

Our carpet is not in yet and neither is the wood floor for the living room, dining and hallway. I have to complete the majority of paint in these rooms and get the wood floor in before carpet. So we look at concrete.

Our yard is all dirt right now so its not such a bad thing not having all the flooring in yet.

Great feeling being in the home and sleeping!

Don't fret the carpet issue D it will work itself out. What was the flaw?

I will update the pics this week.

Great news! I thought it was tough working 3 10 hour days and a half day on the fourth day. I can't wait to be the first to spill wine on your new floor.

My yard is mostly dirt still. The nice grass that started growing in June died by end of July and never came back. I watered the heck out of it too.

The carpet had what looks like a seam running down it. Fairly obvious too. Oh well, they left the carpet laying so we can entertain family for Christmas.
