Bronco Sport - Badlands

How are the Bronco Sports with the 2.0L and 8 speed? They look like a pretty good value. I like the size. I generally prefer smaller cars. I'm 6"1 but I like the maneuverability of a small car/truck/suv.

You can lock the rear in the Badlands trim. Pretty capable for the money.

It's a Ford though and their reliability is very questionable.

JD Powers gives them a good reliability rating. Not sure how much that means. The 2.0L Ecoboost is def better than the 1.5L found in all other trims.

Broncos were my favorite truck growing up in the 80's/90s. My dad and grandfather were Ford truck guys.

They're selling a lot of them..as evident on what I'm seeing out in the wild. Seem to be a trimmed down "Rugged" version to satisfy most SUV? buyers. UOA have looked okay on these.

Thanks. I do see quite a few around. Most are the 1.5L. Not a bad little CUV/SUV. Quite capable. Ford's GOAT modes are pretty legit.

My poor sister-in-law has bought a car without even telling me what she was planning to do or asking me what I've read about it. She bought a Bronco Sport with a 1.5.

So I immediately launched into the oil-bathed belt situation and what she must do to get close to the longevity she got out of her 2017 EcoBoost Mustang with 140,000 miles on it. She wasn't prepared for the engine-out belt change explanation I gave her, and the fact that she had best consider using certain oils, changed more frequently, but that's what she gets for buying a car without saying anything to her car enthusiast brother-in-law.

Oh how I wish she'd bought a Bronco Sport 2.0. If I had just been brought into the loop, I would have steered her in that direction.

Quoted for emphasis. You don't want the 1.5L Turbo due to reliability issues. That and the integrated head/exhaust manifold (presumably compliments of a bean counter) that the 1.5L engine has.

You get a lot for that price by today's standards, especially the GOAT modes which are better than anything else in this class of vehicle. As far as reliability, the Badlands has a solid score from JD Powers. The Ford 2.0L is a good engine. But you're right in that Ford has had it's share of reliability issues.

Escape AWD was my normal winter rental in Canada …
The 2.0L is a better performing engine in any weather …

I think it's really nice looking. Has that boxy look I like in an SUV. It's also quite capable for what it is. You can actually lock the rear which is unusual in a vehicle in this class.

Gotcha.
I know it is older tech but we have an 04 Escape XLT 4wd with the Duratec 3.0 which I have put cooper ATs on and that little thing will plow through some deep snow. I don't mud with it but it would get through anything it didn't high center on I would be willing to bet.

Most reviews really like the Bronco Sports Badlands. The torque is spread left to right along the rear axle on demand with that fancy torque vectoring rear differential. Sarah N Tuned really liked it.

What recalls? There was one for the engine block warmer that not a lot of people have. And one for the dash.
There is a bulletin for some that might have a clicking noise when turning, and the "whale song," sound that affects everything using the platform when backing up.

Two recalls and two TSBs for the Badlands with the 2.0.

Same platform the C2. Different suspensions and AWD systems. Also shared platform with the final generation of the Focus, the Lincoln Nautilus and Corsair, and some other models I don't think exist in the US.

Ford Pinto's had timing belts break all the time too and it looks like Ford just figured they would extend it on down into the oil to fix the problem. At least they went from a 1.3 to a 1.5 liter. Bronco, pinto it's all the same.
