Brand loyalty vs whatever is on sale = vote

My stash- bought several years ago(except for 2 qts of PP) back before gas jumped to $4/gal- consists of: Formula Shell, 5&10w30, Havoline 5&10w30, TropArtic 5w30, & some PP 10w30. Looks like I'm an "on sale" guy!

I use Synthetics only, and I was loyal to Mobil 1 when it was really stand out compare to other Synthetics on the market, and without some crazy sales and rebates that's going on these years.

After Mobil 1 has gone to Group III base (cough cough... I know, don't want to start a war here), and other major brand name is catching up with decent spec (ex. PP meeting GM4718M and HTO-06, Quaker State Horsepower meeting GM4718M, Valvoline Synpower *officially * meeting GM4718M). I am now not loyal to any brand but buying Synthetics based on sales price with or without rebates.

My reason behind this change is because these 5W30 has been quiet close in terms of performance, why not just buy the oil based on sales. Unless I own an European car which require A3 or whatever the manufacture spec (ex. BMW LL-01, Benz Spec, VW Spec...), or I own a very high performance car which needs some robust oil, I am not sticking to one brand as of now.

Synthetics on sale, with a heavy bias toward Synpower. Valvoline gets no respect around here considering the UOA's quality. : )

Brand loyalty...within reason.
I don't believe changing oil brands/types every oil change is the best for the engine.
I like to experiment around a little, then stick with one that seems smooth and quiet for a while.

I usually stick to a few brands that I like and choose between then based on sale price. My truck generally gets a high milage 5W-30, while my Entourage minivan gets whatever 5W-20 is on sale. The newest addition is a 2006 Mustang GT and I have not settled on what I will use. I may find one oil and stick with that one... Right now it is Mobil 1. So my long answer to say that I am not brand loyal.

I am a brand loyal. I like castrol. I change my oil at walmart. so I ask for castrol syntec only.

from my experience, walmart do good job.

I'd say overall I'm not brand loyal as I've tried Mobil 1 5w-20, Mobil 1 0w-20, Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20, and RP 5w-20. But my last change I lucked out and got 5 qts of Castrol Edge 5w-20 and a K&N filter on sale for $26 @ Advance Auto. I don't think I'll do RP again as $50 is kinda expensive to change oil.

Simple:

Pennzoil, Shell, Quaker state, Castrol, Valvoline or Maxlife. best price rules - they are all great oils.

Synth - $20 or less per jug

Dino - $12 or less

Brand loyal. My Enclave listed for ~$43K. More than I paid for my first house. I want to run it 6 years, which is about 240K miles. I'm not concerned about saving $10 on an oil change. I've been running Pennzoil Ultra. Buy it at WalMart.

I would bet any recommend oil will let your engine see 240K miles.

I'm not loyal to any one particular brand... but when I start using a particular oil in a certain vehicle, I stay with it.

Truck - Pennzoil Platinum
Motorcycle - Amsoil AMO
Car - Valvoline MaxLife
Car - Pennzoil Platinum
Truck - Pennzoil Platinum
Car - Wal-Mart High Mileage
Car - Wal-Mart High Mileage

+1

It's not the same engine, my '94 +250k miles had dino and syn of various brands and the engine is still running very good. It had fairly long OCI's too, 6-7k/6mo with dino and 12-14k/12mo with syn, one oil filter per year, i.e., oil filter is reused with dino.

No argument from me. I'm sure they would.
