Brand loyalty vs whatever is on sale = vote

Once chosen (which is a task all by itself); brand loyal. Although, I started way back when with Valvoline racing oil (20W-50) in a '80 T/A with a 455. I then switched to M1 in the Corvettes and once again to PP in the other cars.

PU is the current selection for the FX4 and PP in the two Hyundais.

This is my MO as well. When it's oil change time, I go to the local Wal-Mart and see what's on sale/cheapest between the following brands:

Pennzoil
Quaker State
Havoline
Mobil Drive Clean 5000
Castrol GTX
Chevron (if it's in stock at all)

For some reason that I can't really explain, I'm leery of Valvoline and Supertech, otherwise they'd be in that list as well.

Nothing but M1 for my Accord and mainly Valvoline Maxlife and SynPower for my Corolla. I normally get the Valvoline on sale. The Maxlife I use is synthetic and I like to stick with 5W30 for Valvoline and either 5W20 or 0W20 for Accord. I put M1 in Corolla sometime but it use it for mountain road a lot so 5W30 is a better bet.

I don't use dino or anything made by Castrol.

Don't make the same mistake I do and stock up. I have enough oil to last 3 years and some of them are already 2-3 years old. While oil don't get depleted or become bad just sitting there, regardless of what people say, I always seem to pick something when I see them on sale at AAP and use it instead of the stash. I think having oil for 1 extra OCI is good enough. For most people, that would be 10 quarts, 5 for each vehicle they have.

That's hilarious!! Dude. Read your own posts! Once you did mention Amsoil, but nearly every post you recommend M1. I have no problem with your loyalty - no need to hide it.

M1 rocks because Amsoil acquisition isn't easily accomplished. The only time I see Amsoil is at gun shows and only rarely. Even the race crowd don't use it. If I can have a dealer near by to save shipping cost, I would just use it and forget about it. But for the slow and attentive driver like myself, M1 is already an overkill.

Yeah. All the name brands are if you change when due. Most cars probably eventually end up in the junkyard from wrecks or rust rather than lube related engine wear.

I buy whatever major brand has a sale going on with the best price at the time....

Frankly it is silly to be brand loyal since the indstry specs pretty much make any major brand a very good product, that exceed all manufacturer needs.

I'm brand loyal, my car is on a strict diet of Mobil 1 10w-30 HM in summer and M1 5w-30 HM. Those big silver jugs with the "1" on them just draw me in, lol.

+1

But won't buy Castrol or Mobil unless I can find it for less than $1 a quart. Or any boutique oils.

Let me know when you find those deals!

whatever is on sale even though i prefer shell or mobil...i think they will survive w/o me

Not really brand loyal, but I do have a list of oils that I would purchase from the major players that fit my application. The one that I buy is the one that is on sale.

Once i find a oil brand/weight that works good in a car i stick with it. I don't like to mix and match oils.

I guess I'm both. The wifes car specs mobil 1 so I'm stuck there, but my truck gets whatever synthetic is on sale. Sometimes the truck gets 2 different oils mixed together.
