Does anyone know if Castrol operates independanly from BP even they are owned aby British Petro? Is Castrol sill the same company as before the takeover?

I really dont know much about oils.
That is why I lurk here.

Castrol Lubricants is a effectively a division (department) of BP's structure run by (what are now) BP Lubricants people. They may have "legal entities" in some countries still called "castrol" however & I bet a number of EEs are ex-Castrol. There is NO "Castrol" anymore it is a brand like Pennzoil, Sumbeam, Singer, Ducane, Gillette, Dawn.

Companies die often. Brands rarely do. Most consumers trust brands. Except for us rententive spec-driven analytical engineer or techie types...ahem...haha...

I would be SHOCKED if Castrol ran without the synergies of common support and direction jointly with BP Lubricants...only the consumer-facing stuff has to be "called" Castrol...R&D, marketing, most sales, management & planning, component buying, manufacturing, and most dirtribution would be shared to maximize consumer value...while keeping the brands separate in the consumer space. P&G does this for MANY brands. Oil companies can manage it for a few...to not do so would less enterprise value to shareholders.

What's wrong with ARCO???
The same gas as with the others yet cheaper...

Good on you dude I am glad you posted your own reply. Replying to ones own post got attention and encouraged responses.

Not long ago I posted a topic regarding Redex and got no reply and I thought of doing the same thing myself.

ARCO is the only gas that gives my truck lower gas mileage...Safeway, Kroger, and other supermarket and discount brands are all about the same mileage as Chevron, Shell, 76, etc., and ARCO is noticeably poorer gas mileage.

I think If ya'll still have ARCO stations it is only a brand name like "Castrol".

The ARCO(Atlantic Richfield CO) of Old is gone. I believe BP took over the Remainder of ARCO holdings in 2001.
Anytime I hear about a certain brand of gas not performing well I have my doubts considering that I have worked on projects constructing loading docks for fuel trucks. They buy from whomever, whenever regardless of the brand on the side of the truck or the station.. They do add some additives to the truck if it isn't a proprietary gasoline blender. There are several Chevron stations for example that are not in a cheveron blending networkk.. They simply add a prepackaged additive to the trucks at the dock.
To the best of my recolection one distributer handles all the gasoline deliveries in Corpus Christi for example. To severla differnt brand, Shell Chevron, sams club,Coastal, CITGO, HEB, Diamond Shamrock and Valero. There are several gasoline producing refineries in town, (Flint Hills, Coastal, Valero, Citgo(x2). The same distribution trucks go to all the Refineriy loading docks and deliver to several fuel stations. To shipp Exxon gas from Houston for example would be poor economics.

Do some Brands have better standards and practices for there fuel stations? Yes they do. But Gasoline is gasoline , it has to meet minimum standards and some brands use additional additives and detergents. Poor storage, water intrusion into the storage etc do to poor standards can deservably give certain brands a poor image.

Makes sence, (about the individual station standards) just gotta pay attention to where/who has the bad or watered gas I guess...

Apologize for the thread drift...

I think that some of the stations are using the 10% ethanol blend and that could lower your gas mileage. I don't know how much less with 10% but I know the EPA ratings for the flex fuel Taurus useing the E85 the mileage is much worse then gas.

Back to BP Lubricants. In general aviation, BP is trying to use the Castrol brand to carve out a small share of a market dominated by Shell (Aeroshell). BP Air, unlike Shell, is big in aviation fueIs. I spoke to a BP Air rep about it and the oil is not even blended or packaged by BP or any of the old Castol plants. They hired American Refining to do the whole thing. So, who actually makes a given Castrol product after the BP merger is anyones guess.

BTW, here in the Los Angeles area, ARCO gasoline is refined at a large BP refinery in Carson, CA. The California RFG II gasoline formulation (with ethanol) is so tightly controlled that I have experinced zero differences between brands, even with each of them having separate refineries here.
