Interesting news....a potential sale of the lubricant business. Curious to see what others think here. Does another industry titan scoop it up? Or perhaps a suitor from the financial industry?

I've seen the recent headlines regarding BP and the heat they're getting from investors. Rather shocking that they're weighing a complete split of the Castrol unit.

I don't see Mobil or Shell wanting it. Chevron - doubtful - they seem to be abandoning there brands at retail at least. Although I suppose the big bucks are bulk to wholesale?

Maybe someone like French Total Energy or similar?

We should all chip in a few bucks and make it a BITOG owned company! Imagine that? 🤪
It’s $10B in revenue presumably not earnings. Must be a low margin business if they wish to sell. It would be right up all of us tightwads alley. I am thinking a cool Billion would take it - CASH.

Surely we can scrounge that. Everyone check the couch.

Seems to be a very foolish move - Castrol oils are some of the best-known oils in the world, and have been for decades.
AFAIK it’s the number 1 oil up here; a LOT of garages pour Castrol, including the biggest, Canadian Tire.
Go back into the various threads of ‘what was the first oil you used’; and for most it was Castrol or QS.
But, as with the Saudis picking up Valvoline, could easily see a large foreign company use it as an in for our market.
Interesting!

Shell could afford it. Exxon Mobil as well. Eliminate a competitor in the market plus getting an established brand in your portfolio. Win win

Eric from SMA gave me a great idea, so lets suggest they name the oil Hope. So everyone here can say they Hope'd their engine likes it.

Spray some Hope on it, I slipped on some Hope, hey, my car is dripping Hope! Did it shear? Hope not. Is it too thin? Hope never hurts.

Funny how I've owned their stock since the oil spill. I have nary a clue if I'm in the black or red. If they get sold I wonder if my BMW will need a new oil filler cap
