Bosch or Motorcraft plugs?

Right...and add to that Champion plugs of today are garbage. They had their heyday in the 50-60's and a little 70's.

Here's a bit of trivia....You would associate German cars with Bosch,but way back in 1955 James Dean,his mechanic and Competition Motors used Champion plugs in his new 550 Porsche Spyder...not Bosch...wonder why..??


Most BMW's in the last 20 years had a version of the +4 as their OEM plug. They held up just fine.
 
Purchased Motorcraft plugs today. They will be installed Tuesday by my shop.
 
Installed Bosh Platinum 2s on my Explorer at 55 thousand miles. At 97 thousand it has been idleing rough and MPGs have dropped. Now that the weather has broken some here where I live, gonna put Motorcraft Platinums in and hope to smoothe out the idle & return MPGs--wishful thinking!!
 
1. Motorcraft plugs if you can find them
2. Autolite plugs if you can't find Motorcraft plugs
3. NGK. They work well in most cars that specify something else.

Best advice in the whole thread. FULLY agree! I really have come to like Autolite plugs.
 
Hands down, motorcraft. IMO i would only use bosch plugs in a german engineered vehicle, i.e BMW or VW product.

The Motorcraft plugs were installed this morning. First thing I noticed was a much smoother idle. It will be interesting to see if there is any improvement in MPG.

I'll do my own oil changes, but when it comes to something like this, I get my local shop to do it. $120 for about 1.5 hours of work (I supplied the plugs) plus intake gasket. Upper intake manifold has to be removed to access the back bank of plugs.

I looked at them. They didn't look too bad for 95,000 miles. Gap had widened considerably but that was about it.

Not wishful thinking at all. Our Mountaineer needed new plugs at 50k miles, and now were at 107k and they are needed again. It seems the 4.0 SOCH starts to have issues every 50k, like when it is first started in the morning it will go to high idle and then drop down to almost stalling for 3 seconds and then slowly climb back up to fast idle. This problem immediately goes away with new plugs. I won't be doing them though because we are selling it in a couple of months.

On second though, who am I kidding? I'll be replacing them because I just can't help myself! I went with Autolite double platinum last time, but maybe I'll go with the cheapest ones since we will be sending it on its way at some point.

Always try & use the OEM plug whenever possible.

the shops that service BMW, MB and VW use NGK or Denso's. Bosch's aren't what they used to be.. just still have the name recognition.
