2016 Pentastar 3.6L Startup Rattle

I'd question that whole Baxter oil filter adapter. It's likely a quality assembly, but they just seem silly to me. They do nothing to address the shortcomings the OEM oil cooler assemblies have. In my mind, having that heavy Baxter assembly threaded into it will only make the leak situation worse, plus adding to the potential of oil drain-back.
Had I not replaced that dumb plastic OEM oil cooler, I'd 100% agree with you. I'm running an aluminum Dorman oil cooler with the Mopar gaskets. If anything, now I get to use an OEM Mopar screw on filter instead of that paper thing.

If you're doing your own oil changes, the OEM cooler is fine. Mines is at almost 130k now and still good. The new OEM ones apparentl;y have a re-designed sealing interface where they don't use the "figure 8" gaskets, but instead individual ones. Aftermarket coolers still use the figure 8 seals and there is no support there. You can see the gasket deforming in the original design. It's probably a great contributor to the leaks.

Well, it's in there now. We'll see.

Just curious, what material is inside your filter can's? The canister filters make changing the oil so much easier and on top of that, I don't have to cut the filter open... It's already done!

Haven't cut it open yet, it's sitting on my work bench (loaned my tool to a friend). As for ease, with the OEM, I always had to get a 1" socket and ratchet to get it off, and be careful not to overtorque when putting the new filter in so as not to break the plastic housing (like the Jiffy Lube guys tend to do). With the Baxter, I just hand tighten and hand loosen.

Now, I didn't get the Baxter for that, I got it to help cut down on dry starts. Just mentioned it as a possible perk. Too pricey to just buy it for that reason alone.

My 21 had a start up rattle when i used Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. Ive switched to Amsoil and haven't had the rattle since.

I wish someone made an alternative in a remote …
Baxter remote kit is too expensive for what it is …

The Baxter stuff is the very definition of a solution looking for a problem.

OP has 1 to 1.5 seconds of rattle? I wouldn't be concerned. Not entirely unusual.

If you want more data, send off an occasional UOA and watch for metals. Probably ferrous since that'd be the cam and rollers.

I didn't get the Baxter for the rattle, I did it after the 3rd camshaft job across two different 3.6L Pentastars. The rattle is new and it isn't lifter tick.

I also have a separate thread on my UOAs. ;)

It's so hard to get the real deal on 5w30 vs 5w20.

Lead tech at Ancira Jeep here in SATX says - 5w20
Owner of my local offroad shop says - 5w30
Book says - 5w20
Eric at Blackstone Labs says - We don't really see a difference.

LOL

Personally, I just switched back to 5w20 and for the first time went with Pennzoil Platinum (I've always used Mobil 1). My issue was probably the lucas crap more than anything.
Personally, I use 0w20 Pennzoil Platinum, but I never had an issue. I have 90,000 on a 2020 and knock on wood, no problems yet.

Did you switch filter brands also, I heard different filters may also affect the rattle noise??? What weight of Amsoil are you using, if I may ask?
