I'd like to make a suggestion in the name of fairness and that is that you take the data from the appropriate oil change thread before the date that you announced that from there you would be gathering your info. I believe that this would avoid some possible inflation from some die-hard and crazy oil fan boys----not that I'm suggesting any lurk on BITOG

I agree with this, but perhaps not for the same reason.

Troybuilt, you shouldn't have told us about your plans, you should have just done it

Can't say I understand this 100%, but I am going to start taking the information from that thread soon because there are so many pages on that crazy thread it will take days anyway.
I will take all the data from that thread untill 11:59:59 on 12/31/10.
It will take atleast a day to do all of this info onto a few different charts, so thats why its gonna be posted on January 2nd.

What I am trying to say is that there really is no way to verify whether the people that post on that specific oil change thread actually had an oil change. I am sure that the majority have been forthright. Now that you have mentioned that you will be gathering your data from that precise thread there is the greater possibility, however minute, that some---God forbid---zealous fanatics might want to inflate the data for their favorite oil and post falsely in that thread. To avoid this possibility I suggest that you backtrack from the date that you stated that you would be gathering your data from that specific thread. Again, I am not charging anyone with cheating but I believe that this would avoid that scenario.

Hello

I have a 2010 Honda Civic EX- Automatic transmission. What brand is the best oil for my vehicle? I live in Connecticut. I drive about 90 miles per day- and 90% of that is highway. I drive between 65 to 75mph. The owner's manual calls for 5w-20 motor oil- I am currently using mobil 1 extended performance synthetic motor oil with mobil high efficiency/high capacity oil filters. I'm not sure if this is the best oil for wear protection. I NEED THIS CAR TO LAST FOREVER!! Also- my car has an oil life readout that counts down the oil life left. Is this thing reliable? Or should I keep changing the oil every 5000 miles?

Many Thanks,

Bryan

Welcome to Bitog, the mods might move your question.

I completely disagree with this.

There are many posters on this board that never have posted an oil change in the "latest" thread. Does that make our data meaningless?
I recently added the most recent change for all my vehicles with the current oil they are running. Why should that data not be included?

I understand the fear of some fanboys skewing the results, but cmon, who here is THAT enamored of the brand oil they use? I know I'm not...you can accuse me of being a car brand fan boy...lol...I'll own that label, but for an oil brand, no way.

2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse - Rotella 5W-40
2000 Buick Park Avenue - Castrol GTX 5W-30
2001 Ford Mustang GT - Castrol Syntec 0W-30
2005 Ford Mustang GT - Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20

In my eyes, you have Pennzoil Plat or Ultra dominating the 5W-20 range for performance and wear. You have German Castrol dominating the middle weight range for performance and wear. And on the heavy side, you have Rotella 5W-40. Again, just my opinions.
