BITOG unemployment thread

Well crikey! I start a new job tomorrow! I finally got a call back, and it's from the employer I wanted to work for the most. Nothing exciting - it's a national company that specializes in apartment complex carpet cleaning and restorations - the really tough stuff. Saving carpets that would normally be replaced. Full benefits and a really good income once I get trained. I hope it works out. It sounds exactly like what I want - I'll be out and about all day by myself - it sounds like basically each employee and van is ran like their own little business. The apartment industry is booming right now and so is this company. 8 am to 9 pm some days, but you get paid for it.

I'll be working weekends to help the CPA I now work for finish tax season and wind down his business. Looks like sleep is going to be a thing of the past for me in the next 4 months.

Yay! Tell us more about the van setup.

Heard they have a PTO and high idle to run the scrubber gizmo in the back.

2009 Chevy Express with the 6L V-8. The carpet cleaning machine is powered by a little Nissan fuel injected 4 cylinder engine. I'll learn more about it in the coming weeks.

WOW this thread sure has taken off within the first day...

i got laid off in april from a company that manufactures hydraulic piston pumps. i worked there a little under 5 years. i now bring home $333 a week on unemployment. yeah, that doesnt sound THAT bad, and its not, but the $600 a month paycut has made quite the difference. i, like anyone else, am trying to find a job where i can bring home more then i am bringing home on unemployment. so for ive been unsuccessful.

the good news (i guess) is that more then half the people that got laid off have been called back. we have a union in place there so people are getting called back strictly based on seniority. the better news is i am THE next person on the list to get called back. its definitely not my favorite place in the world, and if something better comes along i wont go back, but from how it looks, nothing better will be coming along

It was more that many of the schools of nursing closed when there was a glut of them back in the 80's. Then the profession was "professionalized" with the BSN being preferred. The programs weren't nearly as good, unless you talked to someone taking them. My anesthetist pal went to a school of nursing where you actually did nursing ..not just the required minimums during clinicals. One BSN student said that she had done her 10 require IM injections, my pal stopped counting at 150. It was the same across the board.

It's the lack of locations to do the clinical phase of the process. With the demand, I'd have a hard time figuring the lack of revenue for that choke point in instructors. I could be wrong. It wouldn't be unlike the AMA to put a few speed bumps in the process.

I'm sorry Gary, my info was just from a report on the news. I guess you're on the inside as to what RN's who teach nursing are paid. Heck, we all know that the guys who teach tech make more teaching it than working for Google.

No. I'm not on the inside of it. It just makes ZERO sense to have a choke point where the magnitude of the delay would hinge on way fewer people than are demanded in the field.

Does a world war stop processing 10's of 1000's of recruits for the lack of 100's of properly paid drill instructors?

Sorry, can you hold your offensive for a few months? We're backed up a tad.
