*BIG SIGH*

BITOG gods and brothers, I'd like to confess that I haven't checked under the oil cap since my last OC. Come to think of it, I remember filling it up with the specified quantity of oil (3.7L), ducking underneath looking for drips, and saying "good enough".

Oh how I have sinned.

Confess your sins, BITOGers. Only then can the shame go away!

I did a oil change for my grandparents 5.3l silverado. I forgot that it held 6 quarts instead of 5 quarts. My grandpa is big on castrol oils. I had the 5qt jug from wally world and I dumped it in. I didnt want to drive 5 miles to wal mart for 1 quart of oil so I used 10-30 castrol that I had left over from my jeep and dumped it in.

Worked fine !

I let my brother remove the drain plug for his car and he ended up stripping it thus causing us having to buy a new plug.

Never again.

I allowed the saturn dealer to do a coolant flush service and haven't opened the hood (yet) to check if the job was actually done and if the antifreeze level is correct.

I sometimes go an entire OCI without checking the dip stick. I've never had an oil consumption issue in the past, why worry about it now?

I waited until my dad asked me to service his car, assuming he's kept an eye on things. Turns out he never checked anything, including mileage. Had between 6&10k on it, was 2 qts(not pints) low on ATF, and the oil didn't register on the dipstick. Think I'll keep a closer eye on things.

I hate to say I did that with the wife's car last winter. Between the cold and my back injury, I think I checked it once between Oct to March...car was just fine though.

I've ran a .... um well it was, er I think it was a Fram - for 14K miles. But it was on a lousy $250 Honda Accord.

Religious content.

Did a drain and fill on the radiator today. The old fill is traditional green, but my gf had half a jug of Dexclone that she didn't need, so I filled it up with that instead. So now I got a shade-tree HOAT formulation in there. Fingers crossed!

DING! DING! DING! DING!
We have a winner, folks!

Around 7200 miles on this OCI with the little Saturn and just NO time to do it. Now with the time change, it's dark after work--I much prefer to work on cars during daylight.

More LC goes in tonight until I can find time to change the oil myself.

OK, here I go...on the wifes 02 Accord, I didn't check the dipstick (haven't done that in a long time anyway because it was always on the mark) in a while. When I did, it was freaking THREE quarts low. It's NEVER done that before, however, with 205 on the clock, you'd figure I should take more heed. Anyway, it was about due for a change. So, in my infinite wisdom, I said screw that...dumping 3 quarts of Mobil 5w30 EP in it was like adding more OCI to it. It holds 5 quarts. So, I extended the oil life. Now, the car has about 20K on this OCI. I have no idea when I should change it. I'm using the napkin test and the oil is getting darker, but still spreading out pretty good. I figure it's due here pretty soon.

a few yrs ago, I forgot to turn off the my Tbird on an exam day and left it idling for 4 hrs

nothing happened :) the engine wasn't even hot, according to temp gauge.
I guess the 4.6L can idle a lot without much harm...think of cop cars and taxis...

I don't do 8-9k OCI's on dino oil because I'm 'testing' how far dino oil will go - I do it b/c I can't afford the time or money to do it sooner than once every six months. At that time, I 'pony up' for an $18 UOA to see what damage I've done, not how 'successful' I've been.

My van has a mongrel mix of 5-6 different weights and brands, stuff from back shelf corners. The side marker light looks like it's going to fall off and out (rear tab retainers rusted out) but I haven't even slapped any clear tape on it...

Wife's CEL was on for a couple weeks, EVAP code, but it cleared itself before I bothered to get at it.

There's an apple in my grand marquis that I've been meaning to eat for a couple weeks, now I'm waiting till I drive by some woods to chuck it away.

The Saturn is about 1k overdue for an oil change, but I haven't had time to change it.

It also needs two new motor mounts, a master cylinder, new brake calipers and new lower control arms, but I don't care.

For about a half a second this past weekend I almost thought about taking my wife's car to a fast lube place for it's oil change instead of doing it myself, as I was feeling kinda lazy and didn't want to clean out the garage to get the rhino ramps (which were buried under a ton of stuff) But then I smartened up!
