And electricity ?
I think I see more Yukon Denalis than Escalades here anyway. Maybe I'm wrong in my assessment of the Escalade, but if it was me buying I'd rather have the Yukon Denali. I see a lot of high trim Tahoes with big factory wheels too. I could be wrong because of the way they stand out to me, but I swear I see more Lyrics than new body style Escalades. I live in a small area that is kind of booming for business right now(new higher end bars/restaurants, a brewery, and curated antique stores. I think we might be those granola heads that @JeffKeryk refers too. It seems like that's translating to more and more buying EVs when buying new. I would have never thought they would get much adoption in the midwest. It's kind of interesting to me because they're still enough of a novelty that it seems other EV owners go out of their way to park next to other EVs. I can't say they're everywhere, but it's much more than I would expect here. I always get a kick out of coming back to my car and seeing a Bolt, EV6, Ioniq 5, or another Tesla parked next to me.Where I live - with Cadillac dropped - soccer mom’s and others with money get a Yukon Denali - cars barely sold to start with …
If you're not driving why should you be paying for insurance the manufacturer should be liable.Announcement is that their new E vehicles will be programmed to self drive themselves off the production line straight to the nearest repair facility.![]()
It's not really driving. That's the problem. It's not good enough to drive itself everywhere, so that means the driver is responsible for monitoring it. The best solution is just not use these systems and drive it yourself because you'll deal with the consequences of the accident anyway. If you're not driving why should you be paying for insurance the manufacturer should be liable.
Where do you think "green" hydrogen will come from? Unicorn farts or electricity?SC govt bankrupted our utility. It was formerly very well run. Then they decided the government could be general contractor. They put their crony's in charge. End result is I now get electricity from Dominion, a publicly traded for profit monopoly. Our rates keep going up.
If you somehow believe Dominion Energy is more ethical than Exxon, your delusional. Neither are. There goal is to maximize profit for their shareholders - as it should be.
If you can somehow stay off the grid and produce your own electricity, thats a different matter. For most its the same cabal. And if you don't like gas prices, just wait for your electricity prices when we need 100% more electricity. We haven't increased electricity production in something like 30 years, and big data / AI is already scooping up all future capacity - they already have the contracts signed.
Why are you replying to me about hydrogen? I never mentioned hydrogen being viable.Where do you think "green" hydrogen will come from? Unicorn farts or electricity?
The only source close to economic viability is to extract hydrogen from natural gas. But that defeats the stated purpose of hydrogen.
Why do you think I said you said hydrogen was viable? Why are you replying to me about hydrogen? I never mentioned hydrogen being viable.
Electricity nor hydrogen has the infrastructure here for transportation use. So you better get building either way.
Why do you think I said you said hydrogen was viable?
The electric infrastructure is 50% underutilized at night.
The hydrogen infrastructure is a politician's wet dream. He can't wait to start spending money. Doesn't care what the money goes for.

Can't speak to other regions, but here in Texas I get free nights. EVs can be configured for time of use charging, as can the chargers themselves. Mine charge at night when the power is free. You would have to put EV charging on some sort of transmitted smart charge system based on capacity and demand, which no one is even talking about let alone doing.

My daytime rate is 25 cents. But I don't really pay that. I'll let everyone speculate as to why. What do you pay per KWH during the day that you get it free at night?
My wife just took a 1000 mile trip Thursday in a Tesla, but you're right we don't have the infrastructure for EVs.Why are you replying to me about hydrogen? I never mentioned hydrogen being viable.

Come to Silicon Valley; we would love to have you.My wife just took a 1000 mile trip Thursday in a Tesla, but you're right we don't have the infrastructure for EVs.![]()
1.4% of cars are now EV’s. Plug 14% into the current grid and see how that works out for you. No one is adding capacity. Maybe we can fire up those mothballed coal fired. Of course then we need more transmission. My wife just took a 1000 mile trip Thursday in a Tesla, but you're right we don't have the infrastructure for EVs.![]()
On the contrary, everyone is trying to add capacity, mostly due to AI. EVs charge at night when surplus power is available.1.4% of cars are now EV’s. Plug 14% into the current grid and see how that works out for you. No one is adding capacity. Maybe we can fire up those mothballed coal fired.
AI doesn’t run at night? On the contrary, everyone is trying to add capacity, mostly due to AI. EVs charge at night when surplus power is available.
Oh you mean everyone needs an EV for infrastructure to be there. That's not what you said.1.4% of cars are now EV’s. Plug 14% into the current grid and see how that works out for you. No one is adding capacity. Maybe we can fire up those mothballed coal fired. Of course then we need more transmission.
Yes I could have been more specific. We haven’t increased electricity production in 30 years. Our big issue is overall electricity production - for AI, for industrial reshoring if we’re going to do that. And for EV if we’re going to do that. Sounds like a big lift.Oh you mean everyone needs an EV for infrastructure to be there. That's not what you said.
Sure it does. But it also runs more when people are awake to use it. Not all AI is training. A chunk of demand is inference. Latency matters as well, so they aren't deploying data centers in Norway for US inference work. This is why you see data enters expansion in many regions.AI doesn’t run at night?
Most of the AI projects are inclusive - ie a gas turbine plant is built right next to a data center. The data center won’t sleep so that power never hits the broader grid.
