Big Ford EV Announcement Coming Aug 11th

You like won't see a fast switch Big oil will try to get Most of their oil sold. But frankly they need to get locked out of Hydrogen they have been screwing the world for a hundred years now!
Hydrogen is better applied to industrial processes where you have centralized infrastructure and facilities for storage and conveyance. Big oil isn't going anywhere anytime soon. We use oil and gas for far more than fuel. In addition to fueling our vehicles, it's a process input for plastics, fertilizer, pharmaceuticals and a variety of other goods. Whatever doesn't get turned into fuel will just get turned into something else. Hoping for hydrogen over electrification in transportation is like hoping for fusion instead of solar and wind.

As much as I love EVs I think they need to make everything they sell as gas only right now available as a hybrid and they’d do much better.

But an affordable smaller EV would be great. Just not sure they can do that profitably any time soon?

Ford has two massive EV facilities that are well into construction. Blue Oval City in Stanton TN and Blue Oval SK ON in Glendale, KY. These plans won’t be just pipe dreams.

Someone please name some smashing Ford success in the last 40 years?

The Maverick originally looked great and then they pulled a Ford and only offered the higher end trims. The Bronco had some initial success but never came close to the JL which has been around since 2018. If they were ever going to have a chance that was it, only one competitor with an old product.

Ford - milking the F-series for 3 generations.

Ford says a big EV related announcement is coming August 11th. New models and platforms it sounds like 👍

“Speaking on an earnings call on July 30, Farley revealed to investors that the company is planning to announce a new EV strategy in August, which will help position the brand against competition from Chinese automakers.”

“On Aug. 11, that will be a big day for all of us at Ford," Farley said on the call. "We will be in Kentucky to share more about our plans to design and build a breakthrough electric vehicle and a platform in the U.S. This is a Model-T moment for us at Ford. A chance to bring a new family of vehicles to the world that offer incredible technology, efficiency, space, and features.”

I think Ford leaked that it was going to be a cheaper, faster charging battery.

They probably shouldn't be making any.
The Mach-E outsells the regular Mustang and it seems the Lighting while needing to be heavily discounted is selling. I think they're doing fine.

Do you guys just get bored and have to drag your hind ends across the EV section? Still confused how much negative sentiment there is for EVs in the section of the site for EVs.

This is great news. 😉
I see Buick and Cadillac becoming extinct because of their plan to become all electric.
It's pretty funny when you look at Cadillac's sales numbers. The Lyric is doing very well for them.

Cadillac and Buick are legacy companies. Their idea of going all EV is going to send future customers elsewhere. Many high volume GM dealers have dropped Buick and Cadillac because they do not want to invest in the training or infrastructure.

50-60 years of "research" (hey gubmint! print some grant money for me!) so far with nothing to show for.

A battery EV costs less than a fuel cell hydrogen automobile and uses 1/3rd to 1/4th the energy per mile. But a BEV doesn't need refineries to produce hydrogen. Transportation to deliver to gas stations. Gas stations to deliver to consumers. Every step is one government is fat and happy overseeing, regulating, and taxing. And upset to have placed electric power production under utility laws which avoid many taxes and forbid contributions to political campaigns.

SC govt bankrupted our utility. It was formerly very well run. Then they decided the government could be general contractor. They put their crony's in charge. End result is I now get electricity from Dominion, a publicly traded for profit monopoly. Our rates keep going up.

If you somehow believe Dominion Energy is more ethical than Exxon, your delusional. Neither are. There goal is to maximize profit for their shareholders - as it should be.

If you can somehow stay off the grid and produce your own electricity, thats a different matter. For most its the same cabal. And if you don't like gas prices, just wait for your electricity prices when we need 100% more electricity. We haven't increased electricity production in something like 30 years, and big data / AI is already scooping up all future capacity - they already have the contracts signed.

What do they make that is core to their original customer base? They left that market long before making any EVs. The only Cadillac enthusiast I know is upset they don’t make cars the big, soft cars anymore. He’s now looking for the last year model CT6 used because it’s the closest possible to this formula. How many new Cadillacs do you see? I love cars like the CT5 Blackwing, but I’ve never seen one in person. All I see is Escalades and Lyrics for current models.

If they don’t want to go backwards to get the last of the core Cadillac buyers before they pass away, they’re going to have to go forward to not go under. Buick would be gone if it wasn’t for China right now. That’s a bad example.

Where I live - with Cadillac dropped - soccer mom’s and others with money get a Yukon Denali - cars barely sold to start with …
