Better based on what and by whose measure?

Based on your own measure and perception, mori.

Then yes, I am now a better driver than I was five years ago.

I dunno... when I got my license almost a decade ago I was reckless, fast, aggressive, and hyper-aware of other cars on the road. I liked to peel out, pass people on the shoulder, and generally act like the road was a free-for-all.

Now I'm more of a calculating driver. I probably spend a higher percentage of my road time speeding than I ever did, but now I go just slow enough to blow through a speed trap with a good chance of avoiding a ticket. I'll admit that the radius of my road awareness has grown smaller. I'm much less likely to cause an accident now, but I'm also less likely to avoid stumbling into one. I've refined my driving style so that everything I do on the road is smooth, but I think I've lost a lot of my poise.

I drive the same, physics-wise, but 5 years ago I had only had my license half as long or so...
