Nice spot edy, is it a sign that it’s Mobil and not Shell like all other UK engine oils?
VW is all over the place. They use Shell, castrol and Mobil1 in EU. In Russia Lukoil is their supplier.
That bottle is M1 bottle, same design, and M1 has blending facility in France.

Redline 5W40 Euro is probably Mid-SAPS considering it is suitable (not approved) for MB29.51 and LL04.
Actually, Redline PROFESSIONAL-SERIES 5W30TD EURO MOTOR OIL is
  • Factory approved for API SN, BMW LL-04, Porsche C30, Mercedes Benz-Approval 229.51 and VW-Audi 507.00/504.00

It was shown on here that that oil is nothing special at all, in fact it was actually some repackaged brand available elsewhere at a much lower price.

As mentioned 1000 times before, Redline Professional is repackaged Kendal made by Phillips 66.

For the OP's 4.0T I'd go for VW 511 00 and/or Porsche's equivalent C40.

Ravenol RUP 5W-40 had VW 502 00 and 505 01 approvals before and now comes with VW 511 00.
............

This is the latest list of VW 511 00 approved oils and I'm convinced it'll grow:

https://erwin.volkswagen.de/erwin/downloadStaticFile/volkswagen/files/oil/step_51100.pdf (this link automatically directs to the LATEST list)

Audi Original Teile Special Performance Motorenöl SAE 0W-40 51100
BP Visco 7000 C SAE 5W-40 51100
Castrol EDGE M SAE 5W-40 51100
CHAMPION OEM SPECIFIC C3 SAE 5W-40 51100
EUROL FLUENCE SAE 5W-40 51100
FUCHS TITAN GT1 FLEX 3 SAE 5W-40 51100
GALP FORMULA LS LONGLIFE TECH SAE 5W-40 51100
Liqui Moly Top Tec 4110 SAE 5W-40 51100
Mobil Mobil 1 ESP X3 SAE 0W-40 51100
MOTUL 8100 X-CLEAN GEN2 SAE 5W-40 51100
RAVENOL RUP SAE 5W-40 51100
ROWE HIGHTEC SYNT RS DLS SAE 5W-40 51100
Shell Helix Ultra ECT Multi SAE 5W-40 51100
TOTAL QUARTZ INEO FGO SAE 5W-40 51100
Volkswagen Group HIGH PERFORMANCE GENUINE ENGINE OIL SAE 0W-40 51100
WOLF OFFICIALTECH C3 SAE 5W-40 5110

(as per 5.2021)

12 oils are 5W-40, three are 0W-40. Or should I say only one is 0W-40? If M1, Genuine VW and Original Audi are the same stuff?

After reading this topic I'm convinced both Genuine VW HIGH PERFORMANCE GENUINE ENGINE
OIL and Audi Special Performance Motorenöl are the exact same as Mobil 1 ESP X3 SAE 0W-40.

.

I thought the same of Genuine VW 0w30 504 (and Mobil 1 ESP) but my UOA said different. Question is did the dealer use bulk something else, because it looked like Pennzoil LX 0w30 by UOA. I'll never know unless I buy another bottle and get a VOA, which I probably won't do since it appeared to be pretty much shot at 10k whereas the full saps 502s I've run were not.

The OE Volkswagen LongLife III FE 0W-30 they sell in Europe is Shell Helix Ultra Professional AV-L 0W-30 = Shell Helix Ultra ECT C2/C3 0W-30 = Pennzoil Platinum Euro LX 0W-30 = VAPSoil 507 00 Premium 0W-30. All the same "Pure Plus" (GTL) stuff (as several VOAs and UOAs have shown). I have no idea if VW does sell this LongLife III FE anywhere outside Europe, but I remember reading about the NA ExxonMobil/VW connection.

Before the low saps craze, VW 503.01 was the Audi high horsepower turbo spec oil. I believe that spec is still listed on some oil containers today like Castrol 0w-30 and Mobil 1 0w-40.

VW source oils from “local” blenders. They don’t have exclusive contract like BMW etc. In Russia it is LukOil.
