Is there any dino that stands out of the others for wear protection? I saw a post on this forum saying that Valvoline WB is hte only oil that stay in a w30 after all kind of test, and alo read that its one good oil for fuel economy and low wear.

Is there some actual faqs or personal experiences on this?
There's a big sale on Valvoline dino at walmart, 9.97 for 5L.
I'm considering using it because of the deal and reputation of this oil.

Use it.
If I didn't already have a few jugs of oil at home I would be over there buying a few jugs of the Valvoline myself. I have been a long time Valvoline fan and have never had any problems with their stuff, transmission fluid included.

As for scientific data, I have none.

Until an oil is used past what it's additive package can handle (becomes acidic, leaves deposits, drops out of viscosity range) there is no difference in wear between conventional oils. It's as easy as choosing an OCI that fits what your oil can handle which isn't too difficult to do.

I don't run out and load up on conventional at two bucks a quart, but in Canada I might.

Nothing wrong with VWB, seems to return good UOA despite an average-looking add pack. I'd use it if I could get it at that price.

Actually, I probably need to check into that FAR Nextgen people have been talking about here in the States.

I'm a big Valvoline user myself.Just bought some Synpower
for $19.88 at Walmart for my 09 Saturn Vue. Anyway, I like
using Maxlife for my BMW.I would think this will be better
than the regular stuff for wear protection.

Im using it myself (VWB) and seems to be doing fine. I like the -42c pour point too. Pretty darn good for a conventional oil.

Because with the quality of today`s Conventional oil`s, why not? Personally I change my oil sooner than most guy`s on here anyway. So for me, it`s pretty much a no brainer. Now for people that like the extended drains, then yes go for the Synthetic. I.E my Wife`s car, 10,000 on Mobil-1.

Valvoline Conventional (it`s a White Bottle) or the next gen (which is in a Lime Green bottle) both are Conventional oil. Oh, and it`s not a dumb question.

Castrol Magnetec has a very big following amongst the older non synthetic die hards in Europe. They are even producing a 5/40 HC synthetic version to add to the traditional 10/40 dino one.
The Volvo dealers in Germany are very fussy, but if you have an older car and refuse the extra cost for Castrol Edge, they offer you Magnetec as an option.
I only use Liqui Moly oils, but would rate Castrol as just as good an oil company.

Valvoline has repeatedly shown itself to resist shearing out of grade and conistently produces UOA's that are hard to beat, given the OCI isn't excessive. Some others can give it a run no doubt (PYB comes to mind) but you'd be mighty hard pressed to find anything better.

It doesn't look like much on paper, but results strongly suggest there is some good stuff in there we can't see with a cheap UOA/VOA. I would say the same thing of Castrol GTX as well.

Which is nice to hear for a change. Due to GTX not getting to much love on here. (price mostly I guess)

Not sure if I understand that?

Are you saying Castrol Magnatec is mineral/conventional oil?

I know they do one semi synthetic, not sure but it might be 10w40 A3/B3/B4. All the others I have seen are Full.Synthetic.

The only conventional/mineral Castrol that I have seen for sale is GTX, usually in 15w 40 A3/B3 but god knows what cars need those specs? But there is a 15w40 A3/B3/B4 i think but never seen it.

Why spend £14/15 on mineral(4 litres) when you can have Full Synth for £23/24(4litres) or semi synth for £17/18(4 litres).

I just put in Castrol Clean 5k, needed to change oil and didn't have enough to go with synthetic, so figured Dino oil is still factory fill on most cars, can't be all bad for a while.

Decent stuff? Went to 5W20 in my Lexus GS400 (Lexus recertified them to be ok with 5W20 dino, after seeing the bearing clearances, they are tighter than the mid to late 2000's cars, so yes, I am sure it is just fine.
